Easy Pill ^
Easy to take and easy to act is
that famous little pill DeWitt’s
Little Early Risers. This Is due to
the fact that they tonic the liver in¬
stead of purging it. They never gripe
nor sicken, not even the most delicate
lady, and yet' they are so certain in
results that no one who uses them is
disappointed. They cure torpid liver,
constipation, biliousness, jaundice,

Today marks the anniversary
of the death of General T.

—just forty-one years ago. The
story of his career is household
history in the South. His name
ie «ver coupled with that of
Refeert E. Lee, Military men.
«tfice our civil war, have conced¬
ed to him supreme genius in
•adaptability to conditions of war
tfc was he, nsore than any
other American scQdier, who un
dcrstood how to maintain a weak
force in the offensive. Jackson
was rarely attacked. He was
always attacking. To des¬
troy the enemy in detail rather
than en masse vas his theory of
successful w«r. That which he
did among tbs Virginia hills
valleys afforded the lessons
strategy which enabled the
under Kruger, Cronje and Dela
rey to defend themselves against
the might GVeat Britain. Tiie
work of tteeigeneral staff of Jap$m
in the war with Russia now iin
progress shows plainly that Urcat
whioh Stonewall Jackson taeugbt
has beemtcdosely studied by tfeera.
Even the mavy leaders of ifihe
world h®ve learned from Haim
that tfoe mobile column, quick to
move afflid sudden in attack,
the best Sighting arm.
To ham war was personally ire
pugnantpbut when his coraanttry
called tfee school teaeher, ae
was, entered into the
professionally. He kept hin sol¬
diers in constant aotioia with the
least possible loss of life,
inflietingrthe utmost damage rap*
on the esiemy and driving them
into dismey by the unexpected¬
ness of fois appearance.
No military hero, unless Napo¬

Churches Against Divorces.
The Inter Church Conference
on Marriage and Divorce, a body
representing officially fourteen
leading denominations, has is¬
sued through its secretary an
appeal to the public, calling at¬
tention to the several aspects of
the divorce question.
The paper is the beginning of
a national campaign of education
on the subject, to be followed by
efforts to secure the enactment of
laws in the state legislatures,
and ultimately, it is thought, of
an amendment to the constitution
of Already the United Slates. been j |
action has taken
tijy the conference looking toward
the prevention of the remarriage
ministers of other communions
-of divorces whom clergymen of
their own faith have refused to
marry.

casion of any sort on which the
representives of the great denom¬
inations have officially come to¬
gether. The members of the
conference include many of the
most eminent ecclesiastics and
laymen in the churches.

Labor and Cotton.
the Albany Herald.
At the recent convention of cot¬
manufacturers at Washington
admission was made that the
of cotton was not due so
much to speculation as to the in¬
demand, while there
has been no material increase in
the crop. The Philadelphia Re¬
cord, discussing the situation as
developed at the convention, says:
“Southern cotton men at the
convention in Washington are
complaining of the scarcity of la¬
bor. The negroes are flocking
to to the tne cities, cities, and and better better labor labor as
WPll well as innrA more nf of if, it is iq rlo^iivkrl desired, and c
must he had if the cotton crop is
to be increased much. But the
law will not allow the growers to
go to Europe and get laborers,
and Senator Lodge would not ad
mit European laborers who come
of their own accord unless they
be intelligent enough to discuss
constitutional law. South Caro¬
lina has appointed a commission¬
er to urge immigration from the
North and from Novthevn Eu¬
rope; but if any Germans should
come here because the South Car¬
olina commissioner told them
they could get plenty of good ern
ployment at good wages in his
state the New York immigration
officials would deport them as
contract laborers.”

An Open Letter.
From the Chapin, S. C., News: Ear¬
ly in the spring my wife and I were ta¬
ken with diarrhoea an 1 so severe the
pains that we called a physician who
prescribed for us, but his medicines fail¬
ed to give any relief. A friend who had
a bottle of Chamberlain’s Colic, Cholera
Diarrhoee Remedy on hand gave
each of us a dose and we at once felt the
effects. I procured a bottle and before
using the entire contents we were en¬
tirely cured. It is a wonderful remedy
and should be found in every household.
