Committee on Constitutional A
mendments Reports Upon
Two Bills.
Quitman Free Ptcsk.
The committee on amendments
to the constitution of the house of
representatives met Tuesday af¬
ternoon and acted on two of the
most important bills now before
the legislature. One was a bill
to separate the sohool funds be¬
tween the white people and the
negroes on a basis of taxes paid
by the two races, and the other
was a bill to make the offices of
judges and solicitors appointive
instead of elective by the people.
The first bill as to the school
funds was reported upon favora¬
bly; the bill on the election of
judges and solicitors was acted
upon adversely.
No measures introduced in the
house at the session has caused
more interest than that to divlae
the money appropriated to the
public schools between the races
according to the taxes paid by
them. The measure has been
discussed by former legislatures,
Mr. Grice, of Pulaski, introduced
the bill now pending, and it was
referred to the committee on
amendments to the constitutions.
Tuesday afternoon the members
of the committee, Mr. Akin, of
Bartow, chairman, gave the bill
a careful consideration and when
a vote was taken a majority vot¬
ed for a favorable report. It is
believed when the bill comes for
consideration in the house it will
be the subject of a very lively
debate.
The bill to make the offices of
judges and solicitors appoin¬
tive by the governor, to be
approved by the legislature,
was introduced in the house by
Mr. Dunbar, of Richmond. It is
. j aid that a large majority ot the
committee Tuesday voted to make
an unfavorable report.
Cared of Carolne Diarrhoea After Tea
Years of Suffering.
‘ ‘I wish to say a few words in praise of
Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera, and Diar¬
rhoea Remedy,” says Mrs. Mattie Rnrge,
of Martinsville, Va. “I suffered from
chronic diarrhoea for ten years and dur¬
ing that time tried various medicines
Without obtaining any ix'rmanent relief.
Last summer one of my children was
taken with cholera morbus, and I pro¬
cured a bottle of this remedy. Only (wo
doses were required to give her entire
relief. I then decided to try the medi¬
cine myself , and did not use all of one
bottle before I was wetland I have never
since been troubled with that complaint.
One cannot say too much in favor of that
wonderful medicine.” This remedy is

The law of supply and demand
seems to have done the Geogia
cantaloupe growers a good turn.
Returns from early shipments
of tbe season’s crop were discour¬
aging, low prices prevailing be¬
cause of the assumption that the
yield was large: but conditions
seem to have adjusted them¬
selves satisfactorily, and returns
from recent shipments have been
more than merely gratifying.
The best cantaloupes are now
worth between $3 and $4 per

‘‘DO IT TO-DAY.”
The time-worn injunction, “Never put
off ’ til tomorrow what you can do today, ’ ’
is now generally presented in this form:
“Do it‘to-day!” That is the terse ad¬
vice wo want to give you about that
hacking cough or demoralizing cold with
which you have been struggling for sev¬
eral days, perhaps weeks. Take some
reliable remedy for it to-day— and let
that remedy be Dr. Bosehee’s German
Syrup, which has been in use for over
thirty-five years. A few doses of it will
undoubtedly relieve your cough or cold,
and its continued use for a few days will
cure you completely. No matter how
deep-seated your cough, even if dread
consumption has attacked your lungs,
German Syrup will surely effect a cure—
as it lias done before in thousands of ap¬
parently hopeless cases of lung trouble.
