Billion Dollar Grass.
Elder D. W. Taylor has about
one-quarter of an acre planted in
what is known as Billion Dollar
Grass and expects to gather sev
oral tons of fodder and seed there¬
on. This grass is said to be the
most marvelous grower ever seen
in thi8 country. It is something
line oats, only the seed are differ¬
ent. This is the first year Mr.
Taylor has ever planted any of
the grass, and is so well pleased
with the product that he will
plant a large acreage nexPyear,
and hopes other farmers in Wil¬
cox will see it to their interest tc
plant also.
The grass is said to produce a
hay crop in from six to ten weeks,
anywhere; and if sown the latter
part of April, will bo ready to
cut the middle of July, for hay,
attaining the height of (accord¬
ing to richness of soil) from 5 to
7.1- feet. Horses, mules, cows,
hogs and chickens are very fond
of it, and will eat nothing else
when they can get it.
Mr. Taylor has left a stalk or
bunch of the grass in our office
and we will take pleasure in
showing it to all who would like
to see it.—Rochelle New Era.

Cargo of Gooses to Porto Rico.
The bark Grace Deering will
sail from Savannah for Port Rico
this morning, carrying 356 cot¬
tages and a cargo of other stuff
to te used by government officials
at a number of posts on the is¬
land. The cottages are, of course,
represented by the material, but
as this has all been cut to just
the proper sizes, planned, mor¬
tised and in every other way pre¬
pared so that nothing will be
needed in the way of work except
to fil and fasten together the va¬
rious pants, they may just as well
be considered complete houses.
How complete the outfit of each
is may be gathered froiji the fact
that the materials include not on¬
ly sashes, doors and blinds, but
picket fences as well, so that not
only will the cottages be com¬
plete, but the enclosure of the
grounds about each will also be
taken care of. In addition to
to this cargo, the bark is also
carrying 100 tons of dead weight
eargo, also cons : gned to the of¬
ficials of the United States gov¬
ernment on island.
The material for the cottages,
fences, etc., was prepared in va¬
rious mills of this state, and as¬
sembled here for shipment. Mills
of Atlanta, Augusta, Macon and
other points have contributed to
filling the orders.
The car go is to be delivered < t
no one point, but at several,
am:ng them being Cutebra, Far
do, Nograba, Humcoaw, and
Punta Ysabel. The eargo is
shipped by the Pitch Pine Lum¬
ber Co., of New York, through
McDonough & Co., of this city.—
