FAMINE FOLLOWS STORM.
Hail Completely Destroys Crops
—Aid is Asked of People
of the State.
Crawfordville, Ga., Aug. 31.—
As a result of a terrific bail storm
which swept ovar a small portion
of Taliaferro county July 25,
completely destroying crops,
many of the residents of that sec¬
tion are in need of food, and an
appeal has been made to the peo¬
ple of the state for assistance.
Reports from that portion of
the county which suffered most
from the effects of the storm in¬
dicate that a number of families
are now threatened with famine.
Up to the time of the storm splen¬
did crops were promised, but the
hail beat the vegetation into the
ground and killed the flourishing
•crops.
Realizing the condition of the
stricken people, citizens of this
place have undertaken to relieve
all suffering which may exist,
and request that subscriptions
be sent to the ordinary of Talia¬
ferro county that food -may be
provided for the destitute fami¬
lies.

So Easy to Run a Paper.
People think it is easy to “run”
a newspaper. One w-ek’s <x
perience would change the opin¬
ion of most people on this sub¬
ject, Did you ever count the
words in a column of ordinary
newspaper print? Well, there
are over two thousand words in
a column. Suppose you sit down
and write a thousand words upon
some subject, and then another
until you have written eight or
ten thousand. Try it and s e if
it is right easy. Keep that gait
up for a month, a year and see if
it is easy. Then chase a single
local item all over town, and af¬
ter you have gotten the facts all
right, condense them into a few
lines—an hour’s work that can
be read in a few seconds. Do
this for a dozen items that seem
insignificant after they are print¬
ed, but which you know is im¬
portant; then have the items
criticised and inaccuracies point¬
ed to you when it is too late to
correct them. Oh, yes it is easy
to run a newspaper.—Valdosta

Emergency Medicines.
It is a great couveMenco to have at
hanb reliable remedies for nse in case of
accident and for slight injuries and ail¬
ments. A good liniment and one that
is fast becoming a favorite if not a
household necessity is Chaimberlain’s
Pain Balm. By applying it promptly
to a cut, bruise or burn it allays the
pain and causes the injury to heal in
about the time usually required, and as
it is an antiseptic it prevents any dauger
of blood poisoning. When Pain Balm
is kept- at hand a sprain may be treated
before inflamation sets in, which insures
a quick recovery. For sale by Lewis
Drug Co.

A Power For Good.
The pills that are potent in their ac¬
tion and pleasant in effect are DeWitt’s
Little Early Risers. W. S. Philpot, of
Albany, Ga., says: “During a bilious
attack I took one. Small as it was it
did me more good than calomel, blue
niass or any other pill I ever took and at
the same time the effect was pleasant.
Little Early Risers are an ideal pill.”
