GEORGIA MARRIAGES
SAID TO BE ILLEGAL
Statement That Those Contract*
ed Since 1854 Not StrictI y
Lawful.
Augusta, Sept, 26,—An attor¬
ney here has discovered that
there existed in Georgia many
years ago, and in force as late as
1854, a law requiring every male
applicant for a marriage license
to give a bond to th*> county,
showing that he was financially
able to properly support the wo¬
man he was intending to marry.
At different times a different sum
was named, ranging from 500
pounds sterling to $500.
Later research revealed that
this ’aw was never repealed and
consequently that all marriages
made since ’54 are not strictly
legal
Prominent attorneys say that
all kinds of legal complications
may ensue.

It is estimated by the Macon
Telegraph that there occur annu¬
ally in Georgia 133,000 cases of
malaria. It therefore advises the
cultivation “in and about the
homes of the people those pro¬
phylactic plants that, in other
countries, have been found pro¬
tective against malaria.” It is
to be remarked that medical men
of the day do not set much store
on tt<e prevention of malaria by
the growing of plants around a
house as they used to do. The
mosquito theory of germ trans¬
mission has changed a whole lot
of ideas respecting the mysteri¬
ous thing, or number of things,
that we hear called malaria. The
preventive that seems to be in
highest favor now is the riddintr
the premises of all stagnant water
in which mosquitoes might breed
and in the providing of a pure
water supply for drinking pur¬
poses.
Deafness Cannot Be Cured
by local applications, as they cannot
reach the diseased portion of the ear.
There is only one way to cure deafness,
and that is by constitutional remedies.
Deafness is caused by an inflamed condi¬
tion of the mucous luting of the Eustac¬
hian Tube. When this tube is inflamed
you have a rumbling sound or imperfect
hearing, and when it Ls entirely closed,
deafness is the result, and unless the in¬
| flammation can he taken out and this
tube restored to its normal condition,
hearing will be destroyed forever; nine
cases out of ten are caused by catarrh,
which is nothing but an inflamed condi¬
tion of the mucous surfaces.
We will give One Hundred Dollars for
] any ease of Deafness (caused by Hall’s by catarrh) Catarrh

SUIT DISMISSED.
Witham’s Action For Libel
Against Atlanta Journal
Falls Through.
The big suit of W. S. Witham
against the A'lanta Journal for
$50,000 damages, on account of
an alleged libel, was heard re¬
cently in the city court.
The defendant, when the case
was called, moved that it should
be dismissed, and Judge Reid
after hearing arguments from the
lawyers on both sides, granted
the motion and the case goes out
of court.
Witham’s council announced
that they would appeal the case.
The suit was one of the most
important to be heard daring this
term of any of the courts, the
amount of damages claimed con¬
sidered.
Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy.
No one who is acquainted with its
good qualities can be surprised at the
great popularity of Chamberlain’s Cough
Remedy. It not only cures colds and
grip effectually and permanently, but
prevents these diseases from resulting in
pneumonia. It is also a certain cure for
croup. Whooping congh is not danger¬
ous when this remedy is given. It con-
1 tains no opium or other harmful sub-
1 stance and he given as confidently
may
to a baby as to an adult. It is also pleas
.
! ant to take. When all of these facts
are
taken into consideration it is not sur
' prising that people hi foreign lands,
as
well as at home, esteem this remedy
very highly and very few are willing to
! take any other after having once used it.
