Bush, Son of Represeuta* tive bush, Killed by Arthur Sutton. Colquitt, Ga., Oct, 16.-C. A. Bush, son of representative J. A, Bush, was shot twice in the heart and, once in the left side last night by Arthur Sutton, about twelve miles from this place. The cause of the trouble is un¬ known, as there have be?n sev¬ eral conflicting reports about it. After Sutton had shot Bush with his ow n pistol he helped the negro to put him on the buggy and told the negro to carry him to his father. SUTTON IN NEWTON TODAY. Newton, Ga., Oct. 17— (Special.) —Arthur Sutton, who killed C. A. Bush in Miller county ou Sat¬ urday night, is in Newton today, and, while not inclined to talk about the unfortunate affair ex¬ cept when questioned by his friends, he gives a version of the tragedy from which it appears that he killed Bush in self de¬ fense. It seems that Bush went to Sutton’s house iu a drunken condition and soon brought 'on trouble. Finally he drew his pistol to shoot Butt m, but the latter was too quick for him, Bush’s pistol, it is said, catching in his pocket as he drew it. Mr, Sutton has not been ar¬ rested, and says that he does not expect to be, as the circum¬ stances under which he shot Bush made the act clearly justi¬ fiable. Fort Valley Leader; The re¬ port comes from Mississippi that the vagrancy law is now a dead letter there. How about it in Georgia? It rather seems to be having an ( easy death here. ESTIMATE CROP AT 10,771,000. Figures Compiled by Cotton States Commissioners. Baton Rouge. La., Oct. 15.— Ten million one hundred and sev¬ enty-one thousand is the figure at which the agricultural afficials of the cotton growing states, now in session here, estimate the .cot¬ ton crop for this year. The estimate is made from full and carefully compiled reports. Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy. No hue who is acquainted with its good qualities can be surprised at the great popularity of Chamberlain's Cough Remedy. It not only cures colds and grip effectually and permanently, but prevents these diseases from resulting in pneumonia. It is also a certain cure for croup. Whooping cough is not. danger¬ ous when this remedy is given. It con¬ tains no opium or other harmful sub¬ stance and may be given as confidently to a baby as to an adult. It is also pleas¬ ant to take. Wlieu all of these facts are taken into consideration it is not sur¬ prising that people in foreign lands, as well as at home, esteem t'us remedy very highly and very few are willing to take any other after having once used it. For sale by Lewis Drug Co. An agricultural journal has calculated that it coats now $4,- 500 to build a house that seven years ago could have been built for §2,800. The Dingley duties on lumber, structural steel, nails and other materials cf house¬ building readily account for most of the rise. Four more years of Republican rule and trust pro¬ tection will put the country on a rich man’s basis, without regard for the working class.—Albany Herald. Notice. All those indebted to me for mules must settle on Oct,, 1st, as I am compelled to have the money on that day. Any notes running over ten days will be closed up. T. P. Embry. Eight Blind Tigers Tried At Moultrie. Moultrie, Ga., Oct, 15.'—Col¬ quitt Superior court which has been in session the past two weeks adjourned yesterday afternoon. The criminal docket was disposed of this week. Among the cases tried were eight parties charged with con¬ ducting blind tigers. All wore convicted, the fines ranging from $50 to $100 each. Elberton Star; The real reason of our wheat failures comes from the fact that we put all of our time and attention on our crops of cotton and leave our wheat to the tender mercies of the soil and Providence. Again we urge our farmers to sow wheat; sow in October if you can, but sow it. Tax Notice. The tax books are now' open for the collection of State and County taxes for the year 1904.
