THE BAND AT WORK.
The Instructor end Instruments
Here.
Mr. W. E. Woltz, of Lake City, Fla.,
with a set of Band Instruments, arrived
the first of the week and the boys met
Tuesday evening and perfected the Band
organization by electing Mr. T. B. Per
ry, President; and Mr. J. C. Wilson,
Secretary and Treasurer.
A committee on by-laws was appoint¬
ed and the Baud will now- begin work in
earnest. Some of the instruments sent
were rejected and others will be ordered
at once to take their place and as soon
as they arrive, Camilla will have a com¬
plete cornet hand of twenty or more
pieces and it will not be many moons be¬
fore the boys will be making all the mu¬
sic you are looking for. In the mean¬
time, be i atient with them and don’t be
worried with the noise they will make
as beginners.
The Ladies Pleasure Club.
The most recherche event of the new
year was the reception given the Ladies
Pleasure Club by Mrs. Bayard Perry on
Wednesday aft ‘moon, which occasion
befittingly honored the day it commem¬
orated—“Washington’s Birthday.” The
day being an ideal one, the ladies were
out on masse, and each was happily re¬
paid for the goiug, and were deeply
grateful to the fair hostess for a most
enjoyable afternoon.
The reception room was gaily decor¬
ated with American flags, red. white and
blue drapinga over different pictures of
George and Martha Washington, and
the strictly southern blossoms of jonquils.
After a short musical program by Misses
Calihta Bush and Toy Spence, the atten¬
tion of the guests was directed to a large
drawing, on the wall, of the famous
cherry tree which was chopped by little
George almost two centuries ago. Each
one was blind folded in turn and given a
tiny hatchet to pin in the bos, clnpjjed
out by little George. Mrs. M. F. Brim
berry had the steadiest nerve and came
nearest the box, so won as a prize, a bot¬
tle of beautiful cherries. It was whis¬
pered around that those cherries were
plucked from the very tree which grew
in Virginia in 1740, and on which “The
Father of Our Country” tried Ids little
liatchet. Wo are not so sure of thet fact,
but suffice it to say that each one looked
on that bottle of cherries with a slight
degree of envy, and a silent ‘‘I wish it
were mine.” Delicious refreshments
were then served in three courses, con¬
sisting of,
Salads. Sandwiches. Pickles.
Cherry lee Cream.
National Cakes. Coffee.
Pastry Hatchets.
Miniature American flags, and place
cards, tearing the likeness of Washing¬
ton, together with the inscription, “First
in war, first in peace, and first in the
hearts of his countrymen,” tied with
rod, white and blue ribbons were given
as souvenirs. The hour for departure
came too soon, but as the guests went
away bearing the national emblems,
they appeared patriotic, American citi¬
zens, to say the least.
To conclude the happy event, Mrs.
Perry invited her guests to join together
in singiug “America,” after which each
in bidding her adieu, wished for them¬
selves many returns of the day with Mrs.
Perry as their hostess.
Deaths’ Doings.
It is with regret that the Enterprise
chronicles the death of Mrs. Kathlcne
Kemp, which occurred at her home
about three miles south of Camilla on
last Monday morning from dropsy, and
then at about 12 o'clock of the same day
death again visited this home and took
therefrom her grandson, John M. Kemp,
a bright lad, about fifteen years old, af¬
ter a short illness from pneumonia.
To Mr. Henry Kemp and his family
the Enterprise tenders sincere sympa¬
thy in the double bereavement occasion¬
ed by the loss of mother and sou.
