December next, at public outcry at tbe
court house in said county, within the
legal hours of sale to the highest bidder
for cash, certain property of which the
following is a full and complete
description: Fifty acres of land in a
rectangular shape in the northeast cor¬
ner of lot of land No. DM) in the 9th
district of said county, said lands run
niug south 5f>0 yards and west 440yards
from the northeast corner of said land
lot; said property levied on as the
property of J. V. Jackson to satisfy an
execution issued from tho City Court of
Camilla, said county in favor of H. B,
Tucker & Co., vs J. V. and G. P Jack
sou, said property being in possession of
G. 8. Jackson. Tenant in possession
notified in writing.
Also at the same time and place the
following described property, towit:

state and county, lying and being on
the west side of Church street , bounded
east by Church street; north by lands of
Alfred Ponder; south by lands of Sam

School Tax Levy.
WHEREAS, J. H. Powell, County
School Commissioner of Mitchell
County, has certified to this Board that
a levy of Three Dollars ($3.00) per thou¬
sand upon the taxable property located
within the boundaries of the Camilla
School District has been levied by the
School Trustees of said district for
school purposes, now therefore, it is by
the Commissioners of Roads and Reve¬
nues of Mitchell County.
ORDERED; That a. levy of three
dollars per thousand upon all the tax¬
able property located within the said
Camilla School District in said County
be, and the same is hereby levied, and
the Tax Collector of said County is
hereby instructed and ordered to .‘collect
said taxes in accordance with the law.

of the Superior Court of said county,
The Petition of Mrs. G. H. Cleveland
respectfully shows:
1st, That she is guardian of Paul R.
Cleveland, Louis Cleveland and Sophia
Jute Cleveland, heretofore duly ap¬
pointed as such guardian in said county.
2nd, That she desires to sell for rein¬
vestment, at private sale, the following
property, tho same being all of the es¬
tate of her said wards, to-wit: “Ail
that strip of laud lying between the
‘Stewart Line,’ which heretofore has
formed the western boundry line of lot
No. 2C5on the east tind the public road
on the west, extending north from the
original laud line of lot No. 265 to a
three-acre strip which was originally
bought by J. L Hand from Matthewson
& Butler, as a part of laud lot No.
296. The parcel herein mentioned con¬
taining four acres, more or less, being
fractions of original lots of land Nos.
265 and 286 in the 10th district of Mitch¬
ell County, Georgia, also that portion
of lot of land No. 296 lying east of the
public road and east of lauds of R. T.
Proctor.
Also that portion of lot of laud No.
365 iu the lOUi District of Mitchell
County, Georgia, lying on the West
side of the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad,
said parcel of laud being and containing
99.89 acres, more or less, and more par¬
ticularly described in a deed from J. O
Malhewsou mid Sarah B. Butler to J. L.
Hand, dated April 4th, 1879.
Also three acres of land in the north¬
east corner of lot of land No. 296 in the
10th district of Mitchell County, Geor¬
gia, said parcel o' land to extend south
from the north line of said lot 210 yards
and west from the east line of said lot
far enough to make three aeres outside
of the right-of-way of said railroad.
3rd, All of said lands lying in one
body and about one hundred acres of
the same being iu cultivation, a great
portion of which beiug within tlie cor¬
porate limits of the town of Pelham,
and the remainder just outside of the
corporate limits of said town, has for a
great number of'years been used as a
farm and is now beiug used for that pur¬
pose, but being located as aforesaid, the
taxes on said laud are so very high
that consequently the income of the
same as a farm is greatly diminished by
reason of this fact; because, although
said lands are located partly within tlie
Town of Pelham, the yearly rental of
the same for farming purposes is not as
high as lands located a distance of four
or five miles from said Town of Pelham,
on which taxation is much lower.
4th, Petitioners desire to invest the
proceeds arising from the sales of the
above descrided laud ill certain country
farming lands, to-wit:
Two hundred and fifty (250j acres,
more or less, of land south-east of Pel¬
ham, known as one of the George West
lots of land and being lot of laud No.
144 iu tlie 10th district of Much ill
County, Georgia.
And also in the following improved
town property to-wit :
That tract or parcel of land lying and
being in the town of Pelham, Mitchell
Comity, Georgia, and facing north on
Bennett street (sometimes known as
McElvey St.) One Hundred and Sixteen
(116) feet, more or less’ and extending
southward Two Hundred and Cue (20I-)
feet, being a parallelogram in shape,
bounded on the north by Bennett street ;
east by au alley; south by lot No 1,
block B. of the “Castleberry" Survey;
west by a wire fence separating this
laud from lauds of Mrs. S. U. McElvey;
also the east portion of lot No. 1, block
B., "Castleberry” Survey, measuring
One Hundred and Six (106) feet on Hand
Avenue and extending northward Two
Hundred and Three (203) feet more or
less, to the above described land, then
east and west One Hundred and Six
(100) feet, Two Hundred and Three
(203) feet more or less, uortli and south.
2th, Petitioner further shows that the
income on the country farming lands
tlie purchase of which is herein contem¬
plated, will be greater than the income
on the town farming lands herein
•sought to be sold by reason of the facts
set out iu paragraph three ot this peti
tion, and for the lurther reasons that
good tenants are more easily secured to
cultivate land lying within four or five
miles town than to cultivate land lying
within the corporate limits of the town,
and it is more convenient and less
pensive to raise hogs and cows in the
country than in town.
6th, Petitioners further shows that the
income arising from the yearly rental of
the improved town property desired by
her to be purchased is greater in pro¬
portion to the amount that she proposes
to invest iu the same than that arising
yearly from any part of the laud sought
to be sold by her and moreover the
town property above descrided, being
closer to the business sectiou of tlie
town and located on Hand Avenue, the
most popular residence portion of the
town, its value will increase far more
rapidly as the years go by.
7th, Petitioner further shows that af¬
ter purchasing the farming land and
the town property above mentioned she
will have the sum of $1,286.00 in cash
remaining, which said sum of $1,286.00
less the cost of this proceeding, peti¬
tioner desires to invest in renovating,
remodeling and rendering more tenable
the house located 011 the above described
town property -
Petitioner shows that notice of her
intention to make this application has
been published ouce a week for four

Locust Plagues.
History mentions many pestilences
caused by the decaying bodies of dead
locusts. On oue occasion so many lo¬
custs perished off the coast of Africa
that a bank four or five feet high and
fifty miles long was formed on the
shore by their dead bodies, and the
stench of them reached inland for 150
miles. In another part of Africa early
in the Christian era a plague of lo¬
custs is said to have caused the death
of 800,000 persons, and in 591 nearly
as bad a plague occurred iu Italy.

Greatest Cavalry Fight.
The most tremendous cavalry fight,
perhaps, that the world has ever seen
took place at Dorylettm, Syria, during
the flrst of the crusades between the
mailed chivalry of Christian Europe
and the Saracens. The cavalry of the
crusaders numbered 110.000. while that
of the Saracens reached the prodigious
figure of 300.000. Completely surprised
by the enemy, the Christians recovered
