May Be a Valuable Discovery.
Mr. Charles G. Bostwick
was exhibiting yesterday samples
of a substance called peat, which,
according to an analysis made of
it by one of the best chemist in the
state, is a natural and very fine
grade of fertilizer. The chemist
says it contains a greater amount
of oil and is of a higher commer¬
cial value as a fertilizer than cot¬
ton seed meal.
Mr. Bostwick says he got the
substance from a peat bed 2%
miles west of Colquitt, in Miller
county, which covers a space of
thirty acres and goes to a depth of
89 inches with an estimated ca
paeity of a million tons, and w hich,
until a few days ago when he and
Mr. G. W. Riley, of Americas, pur¬
chased half interest in the thirty
acres, belonged to Messrs. J>. F.
and \V. H. Rawls of Colquitt.
Mr. Bostwick gained the idea as
to what the substance was* when
he first saw it several months ago,
and he got 6V, “ Mr. " J *'“**-* Riley interested vo ‘^“ in
his discovery. Together they went
dotvn to look at it and secured
options on half interest in the
thirty acres. Having an analysis
“ iade aud lea, ; ni,1 S the valuc of Mr -
^ostwick’s discovery, they have
purchased aud are now preparing
to develop the peat from its crude
state and put it on the market as a
fertilizer.—C a 1 h o u n County
