MUSIC IN AMERICA
MUSIC IN GEORGIA
MUSIC IN PELHAM
Of special interest to the music
lovers of Pelham, are the tradtitons
of the past; covering the periods
whfeu the Indians roamed through
the wooded hills and dales ofGeor
gia. Many of the tribes were
noted for the liquid tone of their
language, double vowels in many
syllables being necessary to ex
press the names whiqE they gave
to streams, such as the Tallulah,
Oconee, Ogeechee and others.
While it is true that America has
not yet produced a great American
Composer, it has nevertheless, a
copious and important musical
history.
“Way down in Georgia.” even
the pine trees are singing songs of
success. We have always wanted,
as a State, to help make America
musical. Now we are doing it.
Aud how is it being done? By en¬
couraging American Composers, by
providing hearings for their works,
by stimulating musical apprecia¬
tion aud the study of music, by se
curing recognition of music as an
essential factor of education for
which credits shall be given wheth
er taught iu public or private
schools, by aidiug Americanization
and by fostering the community
music movement iu all its varied
activities.
By giving American Artists an
equal opportunity with foreign
artists in Opera aud Concert.
Let us then feel proud to know
that Pelham has a Music Club,
whose aim is, “To promote and
(
cultivate the interest iu our town
for the best music.”
Sing a Soug of Georgia,
The land where men are kind,
The land of Geutlewoman,
The laud where friendships bind;
Wb-erer Romance -knows — no
danger,
Where human hearts love best;
The jewels of her rich resource
Are Georgia’s children, blessed!

Barber Shop Notice!
We want to thank all who have
given us their patronage in the Barber
line, especially our old customers who
stood by us through the bitter and the
sweet. x
Some few months ago we cut the
prices to 10 and 15 cents, and we soon
found that we could not stay in the
barber business at these prices, so we
put our shaves to 15c, hair cuts 15c; in
fact, everything 15c. At these prices
we can stay in Pelham and do your
barber work.
We have been in the barber busi¬
ness 14 years and know how to do the
work. We were the first to come down
and will be the last to go up. In fact,
we will never go up.
Thanking you all for past business, which
has been very pleasant with us, and hope to have
you all continue to favor us with your patronage,
promising the very best of service.
J. C. GILLISPIE,
Proprietor.
