Jones, one of the editors of the Telegraph & Messenger, was publicly cow- liidcd ou the 7lh inst. by a lady whose father laid been disrespectfully mentioned in Unit paper. ’ As soon as J ones recovered from his astonishment at such strange and unexpected proceedings, lie wrenched the whip from her hands, and crossing die street, feathered in on her husbund, who was doubtless taken as much by surprise as the editor had been. Lost His Head. Last week, Bill Hightower, commonly known as “River Bill,” (colored) drove liis oxen down to die ferry landing, on the Dublin side, where he eudeavored to stop them until the flat, which was on the other sido, should return. But the down-grade was rapid and the load heavy, so die oxen not being , able to stop the cart readily, marched into the river, and’ soon got into swimming water. The cart-body floated off with Bill’s meal, sugar, and other goods, the darkey jumped out and swam ashore, managing some liow to get his team hack to land with him. He afterwards recovered the cart-body witli part of his groceries, but in a badly damaged condition. Having secured these, lie addressed him self to flic punishment of liis oxen. To this end he hurled a stone with great vio lence at one of them, and missing him, he became so enraged that he sprang at the ox like a mad buli-dog, and caught him al>ove the eye with his teeth, holding ou with an insane grip, and screaming all the while like one gone mad. There is no telling what would have been the result bad not tho Rev. T. W. Johnson, who witnessed the whole transaction, interfered iu behalf of the ox. unlays.
