Vernon was in town last week and says but little sickness in Montgomery. The work on Mrs. Beaclianfi’s new buil ding is going on rapidly. The house will: soon be fit for use. Mrs. Robt. J, Hightower and Miss Mol lie Hightower of Johnson county were in town a few days ago. Cotton is opening rapidly, and an excuse for not bringing round Unit subscription would be hard to find. Mrs. Mary McLendon and Miss Fannie Herman, of Eastman, are visiting friends and relatives pf this place. The Editor of the Post left Dublin on lust Sunday morning for Johnson county, to Ijg absent three otj Tour days.. ^ Since the Ferry bus been made free, par ties from Johnson and Montgomery coun ties are in town almost every day. The reunion will surely prove a grand success. No move ever had the coopera tion of her entire people so heartily. Let every body who hasn’t already done so put up a pig immediately for the barbe cue and basket dinner in November. Mr. Scarborough’s-new cottage is receiv ing a coat of paint. Our new painter, Mr, Poland, is doing.the work in fine style. Prof, G. A. Harrison of Eastman stopped over a few days! in Dublin on bis return from the District meeting in Swuins’joro. Mr. A. P. Smith, nil enterprising turpen tine distiller, we regret to learn is now suf fering from.a serious attack of billions fe ver. Died on the 24th inst. Nealy Flanders sonofMr. J. He has been round making the assessment. Master Tom Hicks of this county, has lately procured a pair of tliorough-bred merino sheep, and -also a pair of Pennsyl vania hounds. Wc learn from the Dispnteh that the next convention of the Btato Agricultural con vention will be hold in -Ilawkiusville in February next. TJic editor of the Ilawkiusville D input eh wants a thorough-bred Cur pup, and offers a year’s subscription to his paper in pay ment for the same. The Daily Constitution can he obtained for the rest, of the Congressional campaign for $2.50. The Constitution is one of the livest and most progressive papers in the South, nnd is particularly and especially desirable to parties wishing to keep thor oughly posted in the fall campaign. Warning to sports;—When you go hunting,' be careful which way you go, do not stop under two miles, and don’t shoot too loud, or you are a gono coon; in other words you will be u-r-r-e-st-e-d, and brought before Ins Honor, the Mayor, for shooting on the streets or the public square. Attention is directed to'announcement of new candidates in this issue; also to what the Ordinary "lias to say about taxes. On account of the shrinkage in the value of property, a larger per cent will have to lie collected in order to meet the usual coun ty expenses. Wc regret to chronicle the death of little Willie S. Daniel, son of Mr. and Mrs. James A. Daniel, whose funeral was preached during the series of meetings held at Blue Water church. AYe have received the “Premium List of the North Georgia Stock and Fair Associa tion,” which is gotten up in Atlanta’s usu ally excellent style. From what the press says, the Fair will undoubtedly lx* n grand success. THAT REUNION. Below avo give the proceedings of the last meeting bold on last Satur day, in Dublin: Dublin, Auct. 24Lh, 1878. The Association ..m“t -as per ad journment, and Joint T. Rogers, Chairman of the Central Committee, was, on motion of Capt. Tillery, culled to preside. On motion of Mr. Conner, Capt. Stanley avus requested to act as Sec retary. The report of the committee pro viously appointed, avus, on 1 ho call of Capt. Tillery, read by'a member of bo committee — Col. Guyton, the Chairman, being absent—and being read, avus taken up by sections. It was as follows-- Constitution. AVo, the survivors of the late War between the States, of the county of Laurens, desirous of perpetrating the names of the heroes avJio perished in that, strife; to keep fresh in oar memories the scenes and incidents of the Four Ydafs War, and for the purpose of renewing the friendships then formed, associate ourselves together in this organization. Section 1.—This organization hall be knoivn as the Laurens Coun ty Association of Soldiers in the War between the States from 1801 to 1805. Sec. 2.—This association shall be composed of all persons who were ’egubirly on listed in the service of the State of Georgia and the Confed erate States.. Sec. 3.—The officers shall be one President, eight vice Presidents, (one from each Militia District' in the county,) a Secretary and Treasurer. Sec. 4.—The President si ml I .preside at all the meetings, and in bis ab sence, one of the Vice ‘Presidents shall fill bis place. In addition to the duties of presiding .over the meetings of the association in the absence of the President, the Vico Presidents, together ivith the Pres ident, shall be a Central Committee through ivhom all the business of the association shall be transacted. Sec. 5.—The Secretary sbull keep u record of all the proceedings of the association; and, in addition thereto, shall enroll the names of all enlisted men from this county, and. those front other counties, who enlisted with them, and*'the names of the members of this association-. Sec. 0.—'The Treasurer shall keep all the finances of the association, and pay them out only upon the au thority of the Central Committee.
