Mr. George Currcll, for many years a

of Dublin, but now of Cochran, was in
town last Thursday.
Our jury lists were revised last Wednes
day uuder the new constitution by the
Ordinary, Clerk, Judge F. H. Rowe and
Hon. C. S. Guyton.
Wc forgot to mention in the last issue
that we' received a long communication
from Wrightsville, which we could not
publish as the writer failed to send iiis
name.
Don’t Blame Mr. Keen.
For several months past there has been
a good deal of complaint about parties tak
ing their neighbors’ mail from the office and
never conveying it to its proper destination.
Every one knows that this often occurs at
all post offices, not through any inten
tional evil on the part of those who
take the mail from the office, but from
forgetfulness, carelessness, or want of op
portunity to forward their friends’ mail to
them. The postmaster was certainly not
to blame, as he thought lie Was doing tho
people a favor by sending tlidr mail to
them when called for. But some*one tak
ing offence reported the postmaster to the
Department; and the upshot of the whole
matter is, Mr. Keen has received peremp
tory orders from Washington not to nllow
nny one’s mail matter to go from the office
unless called for in person, or upon a writ
ten order. Strangely enough, this raises a
greater storm of complaint than existed
before. But we think the above explana
tion of the situation will allay ail reamuu
' bit complaint. For wc cun hut believe that
no one will attach any blame to our excel
lent and most efficient postmaster, Mr.
Keen, for obeying orders.
The Elections.
The elections, county and municipal,
passed off quietly, the former on Wednes
day, the latter the day following. It was
generally believed that but little interest
was felt in the county election, except by
the candidates; but the large vote polled,
in spite of the inclement weather, shows
that the people were pretty well wrought
tip. The following arc tho official returns:
County Election.
