Mr. T. M. Hightower is now in
full blast with a 1‘spang-fired” new
stock in the store formerly occupied
by Mr. M. L. Burch.

Dr. J. W. Tucker, formerly of

Mrs. Mary Daiiiol, wife of Judge
Sampson Daniel, of Washington
county, and mother of Mrs. R. L.
Hicks of Dublin, after a long and
lingering illness died on tho 1st inst.
The now council held their first
meeting last Monday and re-elected
J. W. Wright Marshal—Annul, W.
J. Scarborough and Chavons voting
for Wright, and Rowe and Sarchett
voting for Jus. Minecy.
We shall not publish the jury lists
for the court on the fourth Monday
iu this month, as they are the same
that we have already twice published.
As soon as the adjourned term is
over, we will publish the new lists
for tho regular April term,
Messrs. Daniel Hicks, Jus. Snell.
Pomp Hicks with Misses. Lula Snell
and Ida Hicks, all of Johnson coun
ty, stopped in town last Suuday
night on their way to Macon county.
We understand that one of this gay
party means business.

Mr. Sarchett, who has been con
fined to his lied for some time, rode
out lust Sunday evening with his
family to get a little fresh air, when
his horse took fright just beyond
Capt. Stanley’s and twisted round
till one wheel was crushed, causing
the whole party to have to walk
home. Mr. Sarchett was slightly
hurt.
Mr. J. S. Horn, of Macon was in
town last week. He will not, as
stated in the last issue of the Post,
return to his farm in this county,
having reconsidered his motion and
decided to go into business in Ma
con. Col. Corbett, lie informs us,
bus left tho National and taken
charge of another hotel ill a different
part of the city The Colonel’s, card
will shortly appear in these.cplumns.
The Southern Cultivator and
Southern Farmers’ Monthly for Feb
ruary have reached our sanctum with
uu unusually excellent supply of read
ing matter for all who are in any way
connected with farming or garden
ing. If. we could prevail upon our
farmers all to: subscribe for one or
both of theso journals, wo should
feel that the Post had accomplished
a noble task indeed.

Tho turpentine business at this
place is in a healthy condition but
the managers tell ns thoy have failed
to secure ns many hands ns thoy de
sired to cut boxes. Georgia field
hands don’t ltiake good cutters ami
raid imported turhocls prefer to cut
in the vicinity of railroads. It re
quires a whole winter’s training for
a raw baud to become an export box
cutter. With thirteen hands they
are now cutting about 1,100 boxos
per day.

Mr. Joseph Johnson and Miss Lu-
eretiu Williams were married on tho
eve of the 6th inst.
Ed. Outlaw says ho longs for a
prettv little house and lot with a
handsome wife and six baby chairs.

side of the river send them over.
W. W. Smith sells big steers for 60e
and gives as much wire-grass as yon
want to fatten with.
Prof. Thompson opened a school
here Monday, 3d inst., with seven
teen pupils. Additions have swelled
it to twenty-odd. He comes highly
recommended and no doubt will
build up, a largo school. Wc extend
him the right hand of wolcomo and
wish him abundant success.
Two curiosities: Thore lives within
two miles of here a lady who has
•‘passed the Capo of Gbod Hope,”
but has never had a dream in her
life. Within the same distance, but
of unother family, lives a young man
who took a “square bait” of old bro
ken dishes, spoons, forks, etc. when
he was a hoy, but they didn’t hurt
him.
Calvin Jones, tho notorious negro
who has served one term with Capt.
James, of Jefferson county, and one
with the Dublin street gang, was
arrested here on tho 7th by our new
bailiff on a charge of breaking into
Col. 0. S. Guyton’s store at Black-
shear’s mill on tho night of the 3d
inst.
