Eastman Times: “Mr. H. AI.
Sutton, of Dublin, has tho contract
for the erection of tho Methodist
church building in our town. The

wish Air. Sutton great success in
expediting the job. Ho is a good
curpontor, and will no doubt give

Plenty, Tlmnlc You.
A week or two ago our only mous-
er died, and we put a notice in the
Post that wo would like to know
where we could got a kitten or two.
Since the appearnnep of that notice
twelve cats and kittens have-
been kindly sent in to us by friends,
for which we take this method of
expressing our profound gratitude;
hut at the same time we desire to no
tify the public that wo think we can
get along with twelve cats very well
and that no ono else need trouble
himself to sdnd us any more.
A Brillidnt Wedding.
On Alonday morning about 11
o’clock a pair of darkies, tricked out
in all the fopperies known to the
fertile imagination of the sable de
scendants of Ham, and with lovingly
clasped hands, walked into the court
room, passed through the bewildered
and wondering crowd of lawyers,
judges and citizens, up stairs, and
into the Ordinary’s office, where they
applied for license, summoned J. I.
C. Stanley, J. P., and had the silkon
knot tied with a grand flourish of
self-complaconoy. The time, place
and manner were selocted with a
view to make an impression.—They
made it.
I\Y;hI Judge Wolfs big advertise
ment. Ilis houso is- a mighty good
place to go when yon want a good
and honest article. Honest goods
at honest prices’havc boon the motto
of the Judge from tho time ho first
oponed business in Dublin. The
Jtidgo invites particular attention to
tho fact that he must be mado secure
before ho can givo credit. This is a
reasonable request and we can soo no
reason why an honest man who in
tends to pay his dobt should object.
A mortgage note now meaus no more
than a plain noto before tho war—
that is, it means yon must pay your
honest dobts.

A Savage Attempt at Murder.
On last Tuesday night, in (his
county there was enacted a tragedy
which for savagery and cowardice
cannot bo surpassed ovou in tho an
nals of Indian warfare. Air. Pollard
Alctimulon, a good citizen living fif
teen miles below Dublin, walked out
into the yard about an hour after
dark and was standing with his back
to tho front fence,/ when lie
heard the click of ugunbeingebekod
behind him. Ho turned his head to
look, and as ho did so tho gun fired
aud ljp siiw by tho -flash tho taco of
tho mpn \yho shot and. rocognizod
humus G., W. Yates.
Ton buckshot struck him in the
lower left hip ranging down ward and
passing out through both thighs. It
soems that Yates had conooaled hiuir
self on tho outside of tho fence and
waited for McLendon to come out.
The fonco was high and shooting
from over it was the cause of the
shots’ ranging downward. Yates
dropped his gun and fled, and hits
not boon heard of since.
Mr. McLendon’s cry, “Oh Lord 1”
and tho report of tho gun brought
his wife and children to his side.
Dr. Hightower of Dublin and Dr.
Hicks of MtVernon wore summoned.
The messengor sent for Dr. High
tower was instructed to bring tho
coroner, as it wits believed tho wound
ed mlm would die ; but with careful
management, the doctors think he
will get well.
It is thought Yutcs wanted to kill
AIcLciulon because of his opposition
to Yates, marrying his daughter,
whoso affections ho scorns to have
won.
During Superior Court about seven
weeks, ago Yates came to town and
bought liconso to marry^the girl; but
for somo reason went to the Ordinary
afterward boforo leaving town, re
turned the license and took hack his
money. I|e h,ad had a difficulty witli
McLendon two weeks before the
shootiug; but, though both wore
armed with guns, nothing came of
it, and Yates pretended to leave the
community to bo gone somo timo.
Yates is a carpenter, originally
from South Carolina, but more
recently from Telfair county in this
State whore ho is said to have
killed a man a short time ago and
for which there is a warrant out for
him. Ho came into this county to
do some work for Air. Bcacham, a
neighbor of Air. AIcLcndon.
Great indignation prevails through
out the community, and it would he
an unlucky day for Yates if ho should
bo overtaken by tho pursuers who
are after him.
