I Itayc two ideas I wish to present,
and one is, that no food or remedy
will cure cholera, nor does the hog’s
being in good health afford immuni
ty always. I have seen 100 hogs, fat
and healthy, ready for market) fed
at night) and nextmorning 10 or 20
were dead, when the epidemic was
prevalent in the neighborhood.
The other idea 1 wish to refer to
is that we are too prone to call any
thing cholera which ails a hog,
WhotesJjeeome constipated, look dull
and unhealthy; nothing is done for
them, and the responsibility is shift
ed by saying “it’s cholera.” Sliotes
become wormy, and their bowels get
very looso in consequence of it: or
olsc they become constipated, and
again “it’s cholera.” Now this mis
take is being made all over the land,
And more money lost by it than from
any other cause, I do believe. Ilogs
dio when they got the cholera, and
they die flint mid immrioii.-ly. I
have lost of lute two lots of sliotes
with what I thought, and every old
farmer said, was cholera; but I woke
up at last, and began to say it was
not cholera. I begun on the third
lot for worms and constipation, and
not ond died, and yet they were just
as bad as those that, died.
If I think a bog lms worms, l give
him, m bran, turpentino once a day
till I got worms, or see bo has none.
1 also give him a condition powder,
which is also anthelmintic, ami also
is a tonlo, an appetizer and laxativo,
I also furnish them with Charcoal)
plenty of ashos, and salt, and last,
but not least, an occasional meal of
rotton wood. The latter, if oontlned,
they relish. Do not wait when a hog
works: ~

W. T. ROBUCK.
A now mid very sitnplo method of
training visoiou.s horses was exhibited
in West. Philadelphia rocently, and
t.bo manner in which some of tho
wildest horses were subdued was
astonishing. The first trial was that
of a kicking or “bucking” mare,
wmoh, her owner said, had allowed
no rider on her back for a period of
nt least live years. She bocamo tamo
and gentle in about as many minutes
and allowed herself to bo ridden
about without a sign of bur former
wildness. Tho monos by which I ho
result was accomplished consisted of
a picoo of light rope, which was
passed around the front jaw of the
inure, just ubovo the upper teeth,
crossed in her mouth and thence
scoured back of her nock. It was
claimed that no liorso would kick or
jump when thus secured, and that a
“bucking” horse, after receiving the
treatment n few times, will abandon
his vicious way forever. A very sim
ple method was also shown by which
n kicking liorso oottld be shod. It
consisted in connecting the animal's
head and tail, by means of a rope
fastened to tho tail, and then to the
bit. anti drawn tightly enough to
incline tho horse's head to one side,
'I'his it is claimed, makes it absolute
ly impossible for the horse to kick on
the side of the rope. At tho same
exhibition a horse, which for many,
years had to ho hound to the ground
to he shod, suffered the blacksmith
to operate on him without attempt
ing to kick while scoured in the
manner described.—Exchange.
