various actors in thoploasant Tues

music is vary fine, there boing a
number of exceptionally good voicos
among the patients, both malo and
female, and sevoral expert musicians.
Tt is a raro treat to see their happi-
. ness on these social ovoniugs. Thoy
are, so imtny of them, soontlroly, free
fiom eaie, that thoy seem liko a
crowd of happy, contented children.
How sad it seem.s, wlten we think of
why they aro there. These elegant
Indies and gentlemen, as mupy of
jthom are, fitted by qtjluro and oul
jtoro to adorn any station in life, with
/clouded intellects, their brains filled
witji “strange imaginings.” One
may converse with somo of thorn for
hours and never discover from his
manner or conversation the faintest
indication of insanity, and suddenly
somo subject may bo unusually men-
tiom d which will bring to light in a
fttoincnt the particular phase of the
poor creature's mania. Ono unfor
tunate fellow imagines himself to be
.a grain of corn and is in constant
terror <>i being swept gut into tho
yard whore the chickens eat him.
Another, one of tho most gentleman-
manly, polite, polished men of my
ftcquuiu'atioo, f.nicies that one of the
ohm «harming l ily vocalists is a
;>«'gro, ami gets furiously indignant
whenever she prepares to sing and
shows his displeasure by leaving the
hall.
It seems a groat pity that all those
who have loved ones in the Asylum
us patients, cannot visit them there
us it would, probably, dispel much
of tho horror which many people
feel of this great institution. If it
could be understood thut the pulients
are comfortable, happy, kindly treat
ed and tenderly cared for by officers
and attendants, thut their rooms aro
clean and pleasant, their food abun
dant and wholesome, that everything
known to the science is done by the
physicians to cure the mental sickness
of their charges, much unhappiness
and anxiety would bo spared those
who are compelled to send those
dear to them fo this pluce for treat
ment. Thcrd aro thirteen hundred
and odd of the unfortunates lit pres
ent in the institution, and I dare sny
are individually and collectively, as
kindly treated and tenderly cured for
as they would be, any one of them,
at home.
This letter has grown to greater
proportions than at first was intend
ed. Pardon the gurrulity of a tal Ica-
tivo friend who will promise to bo
moro brief next time.
With sincere wishes thut The
Dublin Post may "live long and
older voters, and not x Jqi learned by
oms of the younger ones.
This age is progressive in science
and nrt, but it is so in politics? l*ook
back and compare. Imagine Gpv.
Troup. Gov. Jenkins, or Gov.
Johnson practicing the tactics of to
day for gubernatorial honors. It
would have made either of .them
stamp with rugo to even intimate that
he would stand on a hot June day
injecting an indecorous harangue
into a boisterous crowd for threo
hours. There cutting and thrusting
with the crowd with nbtild and low
;iest,.und taking a vote by showing
lands at the close. Is it not time this
sacrifice of dignity and political
pi notice was ended? But it will not
end so long as conservative voters
give it prominence and progress by
their countenance. It is a growing
lmbitand ashamoful evil. It bus u
tendency to drive from the political
arena mid ballot box some of the best
clement in tho state. Let nil moderate
men unite with this element and fiom
