foot an undertaking that promises
to bon source of great pleasure so
daily, and of considerable aid to a
charitable and mtigiiitiiinous cause.
It is gone wily conceded that when
tho ladies undertake to succeed in
accomplishing an objeot that if there

They havo resolved among them

be sheltered—and they have entered

Tho OaitHo of Scratches.
The disease known u;s scratches is
produced by local irritation from any
cuuse, such as exposure to wot,
inud, or ffltli, operated upon u disor
dered condition of the blood. There
is a contagious form of the disease
produced by u parasitic fungoid
growth which is spread by the pores
from a diseased surface becoming
uttuched to any woittided part of the
foot. A scratch or cut by a calk on
the horse’s foot tirauy thus bo infected
by contact with litter or ninuurc
upon which a diseased horse has
trodden, aud the disorder is often
spread in this manner in largo stu
bics or tho-stables of hotel and livery
men. The treatment is similar in
either case. The diseased skin
should be washed with warm water
and -soap and bullied freely with
saturated solution of hyposulphite
of soda; or a solution of ono dram of
Sulphate zinq ijj a pint of water
twice a day. An ounce of hypoHul :
phiie of soda should be given daily
