Mr. Thomas Cook, one of Teiimlle’s
most prosperous citizens, was an.at
tendant at the stockholders meeting
the other day. It was his first visit
to Dublin since 1851.
Mrs. J. A. Peacock, after a visit
of several days to her sister, Mrs.
Carrie E. Guyton, on Buckeye, leaves
to-morrow for Macon, on a visit to
■her mother, Mrs. J '1'. Boifeuillet,
Sr.
Di. J. P. Holmes, of Condor,
speaks of locating at McRae soon, so
we have been informed. The Px>st,
while u regrets the loss of a valuable
citizen, wishes him nil possible sac
cess in the new field.
The stockholders of the Wrights
ville and Teninliu railroad meet in
the former place to day for the pur
pose of consolidating the two roads.
It is believed that but little opposi
tion exists.
Mr. Wilburn Strickland, of this
county, whila picking cotton yester
day, fi II to the ground speechless.
He was carried home and up to a late
hour this morning he had spoken
only one word, and his suffering is
very great.
The enterprising citizens of Pop
lar Springs church neighborhood are
determined to have a new building
in which to worship. The lumber is
on the ground and the work begins
to-day, E. G. Lcuch contractor.
Success to them.
The schedule of our railroad has
been changed, and a corrected time
table will appear in our next, it get
ting in too late for this. Two trains
a day, has in a degree, shoved our
citizens up a link in the point of
activity.
Christmas only five weeks aud a
few days off. The young folks are
looking forward to the arrival of
Santa Claus with considerable anxie
ty, aud those who cun-ider them
selves most loo ol 1 to hang up their
Christinas stocking would like to
call back a year or two.
The matrimonial fever is getting
pretty high in Dublin. A careful
count only brings to light a few more
that areeligtule, and if the present
rale is kept up a few weeks there
will not tie enough left to tel! the
tale. That's rigi t ; strike while the
iron is hot.
Mr. Joseph Gardner, of Salvers-
vi’le, Ky., arrived in the city on
Saturday afternoon last, lie comes
for the purpose of looking after his
claims in this county, having sold a
goodly number of horses and mules
to our farmers last spring. He Inis
a good many friends here who arc
always pleased m his presence.
One good thing about all this
marrying business is, all the young
couples settle in Dublin. It is hoped
that the young ladies of our town
will exact a promise from the young
men: that they will become residents
of this town before they area second
party to any proposition. Dublin
can't afford to lose her young ladies.
Died.—.Mrs. J. D. Smith died on
the morning of the 15th, from u se
vere uttack of pneumonia. The in
telligence of her death causes many
hearts to sadden utul many eyes to
dim with tears. She leaves a devoted
husband, six children and a large
circle of friends to mourn her death.
'Ihe sympathy of the entire commu
nity is tendered the bereaved ones.

and Wriglitsvillo railroad mot, in
answer to a special call of the presi
dent of ttio mad, at the court house
on the loth instant for tho purpose
of giving their sanotion to tho notion
of the committee that wore appoint
ed by tho directors of tho road, from
their body, in relation to tho consoli
dation of tho above named mad with
ihe Wrightsville and Ton idle road.
Tho meeting was called to order at
12 o’clock, and Col. William Rogers,
superintendent, of Central road, was
culled to the chair, ami Cols. W. S.
Ramsay and T. B. Felder, Jr., were
elected secretaries of the meeting
After some preliminary remarks,
the meeting. After some prelimina
ry remarks, tlie meeting was declared
open for the discussion of the ad van
tages that wore likely to prove the
result of a consolidation, and after a
few explanatory remarks from one of
the board of tho directors, setting
forth reasons for such action, sup
plemented hy a word from tho chair
man of the meeting and the official
reports of both roads from the presi
dent, a vote was taken and tho re
sult was unanimously in favor of
consolidating tho roads. • There was
some little opposition for a while hut
we failed lo learn on what grounds
it was based. After the veto was
taken the meeting adjourned.
