A Bold Bobbery.
'I’lie boldest robbery that was ever
perpetrated in our town, within the
know lodge cf its present inhnhiiaqta,
was that of last. Friday night. Rev.
J. T. Smith’s store, which stands
on tho corner of two of tho most
prominent of our streets, was entered
and robbed of several dollars’ 'worth
of costly goods. Theie are three
doors to tho building—one facing
each of the streets and one at rear
end-rand the thief or thievessetnirei!
his or their entrant*, by the aid of a
brace and bit with which they bored
a panel from the ride door at the ex
Home corner of the bailing, a door
must, prominent io the view-from
both streets, but which was unlucki
ly made of nut row white pine—a
very insecure door for a house built
for a mercantile establishment
Upon the discovery of the theft the
proprietor of the store, assisted by
officers and volunteers, insutaVed a
diligent- search for the capture of
the. thieves and tho stolen goods. At
this writing (Tuesday night) flu'
perpetrators of (his daring rubbery
have not been oveitaken, but goods
amounting to Sro.15 have been
found. Suspicion rests heavily on
two young men of this town who
have mysteriously disappeared since
the aforesaid night, and .whose
nuines we will not now mention on
account of a possible mistake as to
who the parties really are. . It may
be well su'd, however, that the hoys
on yvhoin the . suspicion rests- have
been allowed to'grow up in idleness,
and;if the suspicion is well founded
it will prove unmistakably that
idleness in boys tend to no good,
and that the frit its thereof will be
belter to the parents us well ss to
the prodigals. o*
Dublin’s First Bale of .Sea Island
.Cotton.
William 11. Hayes, colored, of
Montgomery county, brought a bale
of sea island cotton to this market
last Saturday, the first bale of the
kind that has been brought here
since lie oldest merchants went into
business, and probably the first that
was ever brought hero for sale. Not
one of our cotton buyers was willing
to risk his judgment oh the grade
of it. It is quoted, in Savannah horn
13 to 21 cents and it would have
been a risk on the part of tlm pur
chaser, not knowing its grade,- if lie
paid a stipulated amount, therefor.
It was left in charge of It. J. High
tower & Son lor shipment. Hayes
informed us tluffc lie planted four
acres'which yielded one anil ;* halt
bales. Of course.there, is more labor
attached to tlm cultivation of i * 1 , out
where the land is adapted to its
growth there is more money iu. the
long than the short staple cotton.
Let some of our farmers try an ex
perinigntiil patch.
Broke II Ls Leg.
Wo have just received intelligence
of u serious misfortune that befell

Thutsday, 9th iusl. If bur inforuri
tion is correct, lie was doing some
work on a building lie was erecting
when he fell iroui the scaffolding,
breaking his ley between the ankle
and knee. The physicians who
were summoned thinkingIf advisable,
owing to Mr. Whipple’s age, and
the nature or the fracture, amputated
his leg. Tie is a gentleman of
indomitable energy, and had by ins
energy accumulated a handsome
fortune, lie has many friends tu
and around Dublin-who will regret
to hear of his misfortune.

Dublin needs more dwellings for
rent. Parlies arc desire-.is of com
