A Chance lor Some Politician.
Would it not ho a good idea, and
a very just one, ior tlio St a to of
Georgia to pension tho negroes who
faithfnilv followed their southern
masters through the' lute war, as
cooks, body servants, etc., and came
out of ihe service lamed and disu-'
tiled ? Tho idea is suggested by the
condition of ‘•Mike}’’ tho true and
faithful servant who .accompanied
the late Col, 0. S. Guyton, of this
county, to tho war, and emerged
herefrom with tlm loss of both foot,
caused bv amputation', from being
frostbitten when in il^uengagements’
near Chattanooga. Mike now re

known and liked by every one in
that sect ion, Mis only tuwdo of lo
comotion is to travel on his knees,
iiud the state might, in rich justice,
pension these faithful .negroes. The
way is open for some politiciaii or
patiiot to tako hold of tho matter.
Though of black skin, these negrobs

It ixreiniirkubly sirango that the
olliuers of our town govern men I
never submit a report to tho public.
The citizens of the town have been
paying taxes, business, street and ad-
valorem, for years without being ad
vised as to how it is ull expended. 1
Besides the amounts paid into the
treasury fiotn I nose sources, the liq
uor licenses of the town amount to
$500,00 every quarter, ami added to
this arc the amounts received from
lines of offenders of ordinances. The
expenditure' of this money, how,
when and for what, is of considera
ble interest to tho taxpayers of the
(own, mid in justice to them a full
report should be given at least once
a year. It is business ; it is tight
Officers who have wisely and judi
ciously applied the funds should bo
