Arreat a Crowd of Disor
derly Negroes.
The opinion prevails with u great
many it* this part of the country, es
pecially with negroes ami white men
of a boisterous disposition when full
of tho ardent, that for a general frol
ic the train U the l>B«t and safest
place to have it. This mistaken idea
is mainly attributable to the fact
that the railroad is a now departure
for this ini mediate sootion of country,
and the power invested by law in the
railroad officials is to many au un
heard of proposition. However, the
“boys” caunol plead ignorauco much
lo f ngefyfor Captain Dingo, the effi
cient aud ever faithful conductor on
the passenger coach, is determined
to carry out the law; and in so doing
he reveals to thorn his authority as
an arresting officer us well as a tick
et puncher. Onco learned, the good
behavior that is suggested by tho
presence of the city marshal will not
leave them while on board the train.
These remarks were brought forth;
by the arrest, by Csrpt. Utigo und his
crew, on lust Sunday, of a motley
crowd of disorderly negroes, who, af
ter insultingly claiming the right, to
act as they pleased, resisted arrest
until captured and tied in the bag
gage car. One of the disorderly ne
groes, Jim Reynolds, was brought to
tliis place and locked up.
•This prompt disoharge of dnty by
the conductor commends itsolf to all
and should bo encouraged by officers
of the law and tliovO of the road. A
few arrests of this kind will warrant
the -rostering usd keeping.of perfect
order at a moment's warning.
The engineer, Mr. O. E. Laaicr,
displayed a prominent part in restor
ing the desired order at time above
mentioned. As we have before stal
ed in those columns, Mr. Lanier is
euliiled to considerable praise for the
careful and efficient maunei* in which
he inaunges his engine. He is also
strictly temperate, never touching
whisky under any circumstances. In
the midst of the wreck at Bruton a
few wteks ago, he refusod to take
whisky that his physician told him
was necessary to keep him from
fainting, saying: “Let me faint.”
Dennis, the car porter, was equal
to the occasion, managing two and
three of tho disorderly'negroes atone
and the same time.
A Good llucord.
The rapidity with which Judge
Oims. 0. Kibbee dispatches businesn
is a subject of much favorable com
ment throughout the Qcouee cir
cuit. Ho has presided over Lauretta
