14 SHILOH’S (JURE will immediately

Bronchitis. By Hickh & Co , Dublin Ga.
Upwards of nine hundred acres of
land sold yesterday at public outcry
for 11305. It belonged to the estate
of the late John F. Burney and was
sold to satisfy outstanding debts
against the estate, and for distribu
tion among the heirs. lion. Joel T
Coney was the purchaser.
The warehouse on the opposite
bank ef the river has been completed
and the agent was moving theroin 4
lew evenings ago. The building
adds to the appearance of things over
there and furnishes ample room for
the largo amount of freight received
at this place.
Captain T. II. Rowe’s family ore
still having an abundance of sick
ness. Ilia children have whooping-
cough, measles and pneumonia, some
oi them having all these diseases
combined. The frioudsof theirs are
anxious to hear of the early recovery
of the entire family.
A great deal of timber is being
hauled to the banks of tho river at
Ibis place, and some of it is lying on
tho banks awaiting an advance in tho
timber market, tho present prices
being too low to suit tiro timber
men. Considerable dissatisfaction
rests in the minds of tho timber
getters in these parts concerning the
measurement and pricos at Darien,
a market that has heretofore re
ceived all the timbor lrowu out of
our county’s abundant pine forests.
They now Recnr auxious for a change
and say they must have it, if any
money is realized in the business
and it is liopod that they will suc
ceed in Gilding it. A correspondent
of the Savannah JYews, from Da
rien, assorts that great injustice lias
been dono that placo by false reports
in regard to tho inability of vessels
plying tho waters at that point, and
claimod that theso reports will be
corrected and everything righted
within a short time. While this
may all be true, and doubtless is, our
timber men will, if a bettor and
more aopossible market is found,
patronize it—until the Darien mar
ket comes up to her former record,
at least.
Tho judgement rendered one -year
ago in the case of Mrs. Gaudy against
Laurens county for damages for the
drowning at tho Dublin ferry of her
husband, William Henry Gandy,
in Aprill884, was affirmed by the
suprems court, allowing her »•
damages on tho grounds that the
plaintiff failed to prove that toll was
charged at said ferry, and that no
bond had been takon by tho county
as required by law. The following
sections of tho code woro oiled) 669,
670,671, 691; Collin*, vs. Hudson

That Dublin is on a steady and
solid building boom cannot bo
gainsayed. Quito a number of
houses are under course of erection
and new ones aro commenced every
week. It is a pride to Dublinites to
seo tho old town take on now life in
such a marked way, and they firmly
believe that ero long we will have a
city of no small proportions. Lot
all get loady for it, as there can bo
no doubt of tho fact that our town,
once old and pocrepit, is now full of
life and vigor. “Sho’sa coming !”

Judge John T. Duncan received
through tho mail a few evenings ago
two pounds of the Wolborn cotton
seed, which aro advertised to be of
superior quality, both in yield and
grade of lint. He paid sixty cents
per pound for the seed with a view
to experimenting with them. Judge
Duncan is a successful farmer, and
his success is partly attributable 10
tho experience that he has acquirod
in this way. -
The amount of frieght transported
over tho Wrightvillo and Tennille
railroad is increasing ovory week.
The agent at this placo sent to the
treasurer last Saturday night over
three huuifred dollars, it being the
amount received at this point dur
ing that week. Does not this seem
remarkable for a newly established
railroad point ?
Thieves are on the skirmish. Mr.
T. M. Hightower’s kitchen was
broken open Sunday night and sev
eral pounds ot ham and side meat
taken therefrom. It will be well to
keep a vigilant eye an those who
loaf on the streets during tho day,
for these vagrants insist on living
and if they do not tfork they are
energetic in stealing for that pur
pose. V.
Coming Hack to Stay.
Tho letters below explain thom-
solvos. The gentleman writing from
Texas is ono of hundreds that have
moAcd from Georgia to that state
and, after a few short months, re
turn. These parties who return, by
so doing, furnish abundant proof of
the fact that out grand old state is
not cxcellod in scarcely any particu
lar. The following aro the letters :
OOLMESMIL, TYLER Go., TEXAS.
February 20th, 1887.
Mr. , Dublin, Ga:
Dear Sir—As my momory is re
freshed of Dublin by Mr. Blackshear
to-day, I will ass to troublo yon a
little in reforence to tho outlook in
Georgia, and especially near Dublin.
Mr. Blackshear is a much beloved
minister and is now very old. He
loft ttio Blackshear settlement in
1853, whon a young man. Ho says
ho would lilto very miioh to visit
Dublin. Ho preached for us to-day.
I am coming back to Georgia to
stay. I oxpectto embark'” in the
milling business. You will bo kind
enough to givo mo a general idea
of the railroad booms, the prospeo^
of labor, and such other general
information ns you will.
Hoping to hoar from you at an
early day, I am, '
yours truly, —
Miss Wood, the elocutionist, who
read at the court house last night,

that greeted her on that occasion.

Jb hoped that she will have a still
larger crowd to hear her.

Mr. -
Dear Sir—l have your loiter of
the 20th |nst. I-may say that I can
ansWer your.inquiry as to tho proba
bility of gutting into tho mill busi
ness near Dublin favorably, as the
manufactory of lumber and naval
stores seem to bo the leading busi
ness in the southern section of
Georgia. There aro several saw
mills on the railroad leading from
Toanilld to Dublin. Thero aro also
a great; many tiirpcntino distillerios
along tho road, and on each bank of
the rivor. But tho turpontino busi
ness doos not oonlliot with thtf mill
ing business as the trees are good for
timber after they have boon bled.
Your question as to the general
news may bo answered in brief by
stating that I think that our state is
udvauoing faster than any of tho
southern states, and bids fair to
soon rival many of tho strongest
northern and western states. Tho
farming interests in Georgia is somo-
wlmt declining on account of the
high wages paid in manufacturing
the crude materials of Georgia soil,
but our lands are good and will soon
be tho object of investment. There
is much excitement thrmghout the
entire state ;conoorning the carrying
trade, and will nessarily cause the
construction of several roads through
tho state, and short linos from the
main throughtfares to all tho inland
towns of sufficient industry to de
mand a road. Tho water ways, 'and
water power in our state aro rapidly
being taken advantage of, and it
does sooin that with such a perfect
system of transportation nothing
stutuls in tho way of honest industry
placing Georgia 111 the foro ranks of
the states of the union.
The aged and rovorend gentleman,
Mr. Blackshear, you speak of, I pre
sume is from the clover family of
that name in Laurens county.
I shall bo glad to hoar from you
at any time if I can oblige you.
