Miss Emma Bishop, of Eastman,
who teaches school not far from this
place, spent Saturday and Sunday
in the city, visiting the family of
Captain F. II. Rowe.
Mrs. Captain J. M. Smith, after a
visit of a few weeks to relatives and
friends in Atlanta and Rome, re
turned to Dublin en Saturday after
noon’s train. *
Mrs. J. T. Boifeuiilett, Sr., and
little grand-daughter, Apnie Jemi-
son, spent Thursday last in the city,
the guests of Mrs. J. A. Peacock.
Judging from the amount of rick-
raok displayed this spring, Dublin is
the place for the young men to come
to get industrious wives. Theye are
a good many marriageable young
ladies in our town and they aro not
only industrious but have every oth
er qualifications for making a lonely
wayfaring man happy.
The American Bible Sooiety has
; ust compiled the results of its work
for the past year. It has issued
977.605 volumes, besides half a mil
lion in foreign., lands. This makes
the total number of Bibles issued by
the society since its organization in
1816, 48.855.251. Tho Bibles have
been printed in 165 languages and
distributed broadcast over the earth.
Elijah Vindicated, a book from
the pen of Dr. J. 0. A. Clark, has
found its way into many homes in
our town. It is, according to the
scholars of this and other countries,
a work that will be found interesting
and instructive, not only to those of
the Methodist faith but other de
nominations. The book is neatly
bound and the. print is good and
clear.
Mr. Wm. Bush an honest and re
spected citizon of seventy-five sum
mers, dropped dead noar his resi
dence, on the east side of the river
this county, last Friday morning
and was interred at a place selected
bv.him eomo three years ago. Ho
had been suffering for a long time
with paralysis, but on the above
stated morning he felt better than
for sometime and coholtided to take
a walk. He leaves many relatives
and friends to mourn his death.

behind in their planting this season.

Mrs. J. H. Stanley, after a visit
of sev^at weeks to her children,
grand-children and friends in and
outside of Dublin left for her home,
Atlanta, last Saturday morning.
Chicken-eating hogs are numer
ous in our town, and it would be the
proper thing for the owners to keep
them confined. The writer has lost
fifteen within the past week in this
way.
Mrs. T. B. Felder’s young pet
deer was killed S'X miles below this
place ene day last week. The fawn
was highly prized as a pet and the
death of it.is much-regretted by its
owner. „ ■

lar chief telegraph operator, says the
Sovannah nows of the 22nd inst
ate 36 fish Monday, and wasn’t par
ticularly hungry when he sat down
to tho feast.
A good many fish have been caught
at Blaokshear’s mill within the past
few weeks. In fact, all the neigh
boring streams have been yielding
up an abundance to the fisherman’s
tempting bait and deceiving net.
There were a large congregation
in attendance opon quarterly meet
ing last Sunday, and the sermon de
livered by the presiding elder, Dr.
J. 0. A. Clark, was very able and
much apreciated by the hearers.
Mr. Clarence Peacock, of Wash
ington county, was in the city a day
or two ago on a search for a mule
that had been stolen from th6 mill
of Peacock & Peterson one night last
week, for which a reward of twenty
dollars is offered.

what surprised when, on last Sunday

Lest Thursday morning Mr. T. B.
Hioks received from Miiledgeville a
telegram statiug that his brother,
B. G. Hioks, was Yory ill, and in
the afternoon of the same day he re
ceived another stating that he had
died. Tha immediate cause of his
death, so we have been informed,
was from the effeot of a hgrt he sus
tained in a wrestling match. Gai
ner was a true, sincere, noblo boy,
and his early death is much regrett
ed by a host of relatives and frionds.
He was brought to the old Wright
placo and there interred on Satur
day last, by the side of his eldest
thor, who preceded him many
rs. He leaves a loving father, a
devoted mother and several brothers
and sisters, whose sorrow is groat, in
deed, and to whom the sympathy of
the entire community is extended.

The citizens of Hawkinsvillo had
a railroad meeting last Friday
to discuss the advisability of secur
ity, or working to secure, the ex
tension of our railroad to that place.
President Thomas addressed the
meeting and set forth the plans un
der which tho citizens of onr neigh
bor town could secure the road and
submitted the proposition of tho
Central milroad, etc. Hawkins-
ville’s wide-awake business men
know a good thing when they see it,
and it is hardly probably that they
will allow this opportunity to pass
them by. Full particulars of tho
meeting have not reaohed us.
