It was a pleasing evidence of tho unanimity of purpose of her citizens when Jlawkinsvillc’s future prosperity is concoined. Judge McGriff was called to the chair and J. A. Fonche requested to act os secretary, The meeting was ably addressed by Ool. ,W. B. Thom as, President of tho Wrightsrillo and ^onnillo Railroad, who in a pleasant and off-hand way freely expressed the economy of building and opera ting railroads. In a practical man ner ho showed to our oitizenB that they'could build and equip a road from Hawkinsvillo to Dublin at a cost of not more than $4,000 per mile, having tho stock holders with ,a good showing for their investment, .besides tho gonoral bouefis to bo do- ; rivod from .improvement te town, .property,,otc. From their annual report ho Bhowed that his company [last year cleared a dividend of 10 por cent,, notwithstanding tluf disad vantages of a now road through an undeveloped section of country— .and bolioved that an extension to our city would bo a good paying in- v vo^t,taent to iia stock holders, ns well as a fectlor to his line and tho Cen tral in froights to tho coast, which would be rcoiprooated by a return (freight from the seaboard via the •Central over his lino to this point. Ool. Thomas manifested no spir it of boasting, not did he appear anxious about tbe matter, but sim ply stated that his company had (lo aded to extend their chnrtored priv ileges, and wore open to co-opora ition from Hawkinsville, Eastman or other points. He was hero by au .earnest invitation of a number of ,our oitizons, and suggostod that wo do for ourselves what his people had ,do».o for themsolvos. Ho was cop- tident that tho Central road would freely and liberally aid the entor- priso. , Spoctohog woro made by Ool. Goo. AY. Jordan, and others, who forci bly illustrated tho importance of the subsorikers to other roads making an .effort 0 recall their rotes from the Jiaiids ot adventurous and spooula- jtjye corporations who woro paralyz ing our interests by holding our pa pers when they, from all ovidonoo, nover intond to build any road to ^Iawkinsville. * * * * ' CR. * Hi A committee was appointed for tho purpose of making application 4or a charter for tho proposed exten tiox, and oftor extending thanks to Col.
