Married.—At the residence of the bride’s father, Mr. John F. Oiutley, near this place, on Sunday morning Iasfci by the Rev. W. S. Ramsay, Mr. Thomas Smith, of Washington county, aud Miss Mattio Oauloy wore united in the holy bonds of matri mony. They left immediately after the ceremony for the home of the groom. It has been roported at this office for the truth that a negro woman living eight miles below this place gavo birth, a few days ago, to a boy baby with a perfootly formed dog head and nook ou its shonlders. Sheriff Scarborough rpcoivod a tol- ogram from Teunille early last Thursday morning stating that a young man answoring tho descript ion of Joseph M. Weaver had been arrested and lodged in jail at that place, and requested him to go. up and see if tho authorities thoro had the right man. On reaching tho place it was discovered that the man thoy had in custody was not the one wanted hero. The party they had, so wo learn, had burglarized a house at that place. The enterprising citizens of Hawk insville are enthusiastic in their sup port of the extension of the Wrights- ville and Tennillo railroad to their town. It will be of material inter est to that plaoe, as thoy well know. An application for a charter will soon be made, and when obtained, and a snffioient subscription is raised, tho work will doubtless -begin in dead earnest. They are not going at it for-dhe fun ojt it, but they moan bus iness. Getting the people thorough ly aroused on the importance of an enterprise is about half the battle, and this has virtually been done.. Gov. Troup’s Last Resting Place. Mr. H. J. Bedgood, an artist of Lovett, has succeeded in getting a picture of tho toombstone of the la mented Governor Gcorgo M. Troup, whose last rosting place is among the pinos of upper Montgomery oonnty. But few of ourcitizons have seen the spot, while nearly all have hoard of it. On the etoue wall which en closes tho grave and monument is the following inscription: George Mitoubl Troup. Bom September 8th, 1780; died April 26th, 1856. No epitaph can toll Ins worth. Tho history of Georgia propetnates his-patriotism. There he touches us, the argument being exhausted, to ’‘stand by our arms.” The picture is 5x8 iuclies, and those who have had the pleasure of visiting the grave of the distinguish ed Georgian say it is a good represen tation,,and doubtless the many true friends of Governor Troup would bo very glad to have one of them.
