As rivalling tho above the ifollow-

says, that while travelling in Florida

Last Saturday afternoon, when
everything was calm and peaceful, a
succession of heartrending scroumB
started the dozing clerks, and : tired
loafers. The screams apparently
proceeded from Brtiaoh’s 'paint shop,
and scomod to bo tho cries of some
one in tho agonies of death. When
the curious ones arrived on the scene,
they discovered Mr. Breech.trium
phantly holding aloft a largo tooth
which he had just extracted, and the
negro who had parted company with
it, bewailing its Joss iu a most affect
ing aud vociferous manner—nobody
killed.
Tho friends and acquaintances of

anxious and disturbed on account of

Tho evening passed off delightfully,
and tho time to say good-bye came
all too soon. In addition! to the

pleasure enjoyed to tho untiring of-

A SHOOTING AI Fit AY.
Oil Saturday afternoon tho town
marshal Mr. W. 1). Martin attempt-
ud to arrest a negro irnnicd Jim Tay
lor, for having discharged his pistol
on the street. Tho negro was in a
beastly state of intoxication, and
probably discharged tho woapon
moroly as a piece of bravado. When
t ha officer approached 'him, Tuylor
drew his pistol again, and presenting
it fired five times m quick succes
sion at Mr. Martin, as tho latter con
tinued to,advanco upon him. Tho
murshul returned tho fire, ompt-
mg his pistol, and then advanced
with the unloaded woapon in his
hand, when Taylor, .having hast
ily slippod fresh cartridges into
the empty .chambers of his revolver
again commenced firing, discharging
twolnore shots,.after which turned to
run as the officer approtiohed and at
tempted to grasp him. Mr. Martin’s
coolness and bravery were certainly
apparent and deserve .commendation.:
Tho negro was pursued but suoocod-
od in making good his escape, and is
still at largo. He should certainly
be apprehended and punished for
his open violation of law and unpro
voked attempt to murder.- Wb pre
sume the City Fathers will offor
