THE OLD GREENBACKERS. (The Investigator, Omaha.t) The cash of the United States gov ernment on April 1 was $252,635,508, $160,779,632 of that was in the na tional banks. That is to say, the bankers had been given 160 million dollars of the people’s money without interest which they, the said bankers, were loaning back to them at high rates. In all the history of the world was there ever before granted a spe cial privilege of the value of that? One would think that the bankers would be satisfied at last, but they are not. The great financial papers are now saying that the government kept back $91,855,876 when it should have not retained more than fifty million as a working balance. The Investigator rises to remark that all that has been printed about Roosevelt calling Harriman a liar and Harriman returning the compliment, all the talk about a five million fund having been raised by Standard Oil to defeat Roosevelt and his policies, which has attracted the whole atten tion of the people, is a mere baga- MORNING SUNBEAMS.
