be built, so if the Gorman perver

Meantime heaven withheld the us
ual timely showers. The only years
when Michigan meadows failed ut
terly to produce hay were during
Cleveland’s second administration.
Thousands of new farms in the semi
arid regions of the west were aban
doned, others by the million were
mortgaged. Throughout the length
and breadth of the land farmers were
unable to pay their interest, their
merchants, their doctors or their
preachers, and the blame was heaped
upon Grover Cleveland, who had
sworn to enforce, and did enforce,
the McKinley tariff until two years
after his election and then the Gor
man perversion, for which he had
scarcely more respect or sympathy.
Our “free trade experience”—we
have not had a breath of it since the
adoption of our constitution, and
naught but most extortionate pro
tection (?) for the past forty four
years.—From “Farmer’s Tariff Man
ual, ” by Daniel Strange.

The main trouble with them is that
they get too many punches in the
stomach.

To Agents and Others
The Jeffersonian wants to live, as well as to let live.
Therefore, the cost of the paper compels us to adopt certain rules
in self defense.
(1) We canont allow any Commission on the |2 combination offer.
This offer is intended for the individual subscriber.
We Cannot Pay Commissions on
Renewals
Having already paid one liberal commission to get the subscription,
we do not feel that It Is fair to us to have to pay another.
(3) Those papers which are clublng with the Jeffersonian are re
quested to take notice that the club rate applies to new subscriptions and
not to renewals.
Please Remember This
Subscriptions for less than 6 months will not be accepted. Shorter
terms are too much trouble for the small sum involved.
(5) The Jeffersonian prefers to have an audience of appreciative
readers who ’think enough of the paper to subscribe by the year, and who
feel enough interest to renew their own subscriptions.
