Removal Question.
'The following, we clip from-the lost Federal
Union:
Sec. 1. Beit enacted by the Senate and rlousi
of Representatives of the' States of Georgia in
General Assembly net, and it is hereby enacted
by the authority of the some. That the question
of Removal and Location of the Seat of Gov
ernment of the State of Georgia be referred to
the legal voters of said State, and that they lx
required at the next general election, to en
dorse on their tickets “Removal” or “No Re
moval.” If to be removed, where. And it
shall be the duty of the managers of such elec
tion, to make return, to his Excellency ths
Governor, the number of votes polled for and
against Removal, and the places voted for.

ding WOODEN BRIDGES on piers and abut
ments of masonry over Ashley River, on the liar
of the Charleston and Savannah Railroad.—
Three lines are proposed: one crossing from a
point near the foot of Calhoun-street; another
the northern limit of the city; the third near Bee's
Ferry, about eight miles above. The width oi
waterway on the first line is about 9560 teat; th.
greatest depth about 35 feet at low water. Al
the second, the width of waterway is about 20:
feet, ihegreatest depth about SOu feet. At th*
third, tho waterway is about 800 ieet wide and
24 feet deep. The range of the tide is from Htc
J feel. The quantity of Masonry in either of th*
long Bridges, will be between 5500 and 6000 cu
bic yards; in the other about 1400 cubic yards.
The river bottom is a bed of soft alluvial mud
resting upon a stratum of clay and small shells
about 8 feet thick; under this is the marl.
Proposals will also be receive! for building
hese Bridges, by using for the piers cast iron
cylinders, driven by Dr. Pott’s pneumatic, process
and also for building them upon piers of piles.
The superstructure will be truss-framed, on
Howe’s plan. The spans on the stone and iron
piers will bo 140ieet. the truss frame 21 feet high
For Pile Bridges the spans will be 6t) feet th*
height of the trues 12 feet. A double draw, giv
ing two openings of 65 feet each, is required in
each Bridge.
Contractors intending to submit proposals, may
obtain specifications of the work by application at
this office, where, also, they may examine detail
ed drawings of the Bridges.
Proposals may be submitted separately for th*
masonry, for the cast iron piers, and for the su
perstructure. Bids for the Pile Bridge will era
brace piers and superstructure.
It would be preferred that one Contractm
should undertake all the work of either Bridge.
Proposals should be addressed to the undersign
ed, and endorsed “Proposals for Ashley Bridge.”
