I'ERRV WYNKKLE,
WRITTEN FOR TIIE BUENA VISTA ARGUS
THE ROSES.
BY PERRY WYNKKLE.
CHAPTER IIL
The music stopped.
The lady, still holding them by the
hand, led them down the cavern,
until they reached a large door. It
was apparently made of gold, and
was festooned with the rarest flow
ers.
On one side was a knob, and this
he lady touched. As she did so,
the door opened wide, and they were
ushered into a beautiful garden, filled
with the choicest looking fruits and
flowers.
There were beautiful walks run
ning all over the garden The sand
on the walks was very white, and the
pebbles shone. But alas, under the
surface were thorns that lacerated
their feet and the children strewed
the pathway with tlieir blood.
Lorena would pluck the flowers,
that grew in rich profusion on every
hand, but in all the blossoms there
was some insect with a sting or some
thorn that would pierce her hand,
and make her cry with pain.
Lorna would pluck the fruit, but
it would turn to gall in his mouth.
Then the vines and the beautiful
shrubbery covered numerous ser
pents, that would hiss at them as
they passed.
The lady was still with them, but
her smiles were less frequent.
They became very thirsty, and
stopped at a loveiy spring to drink,
but the water was hot and would
scald their mouths.
The very fragrance made them
sick.
Thus they passed on through all
this beauty in pain and misery.
' hen they passed through the gar
den, and came to a dark, narrow,
slippery pathway. They noticed
at the woman who had remained
th them, had become ugly, and
er voice was harsh and coarse.
They were afraid and cried for a
return to their old home among the
mountains, but they could not return.
They stopped, moaning and weep
ing bitterly. While they were thus
a shining angel with wings took each
by the hand and said,
I will show you the way.
He led them into a straight and
narrow way. In this way there were
very few t: avelers, but tlicre were
angels all along, and they ministered
,±o. them, and thev e.y happy.-
And last they came to a beantilul
golden gate, which opened to them
and they were ushered into the man
sions of light.

A PAPER FOR THE PEOPLE.
JlllifTO.
IT would require the scope of quite a large
volume to contain the good things that are
said about the Morning News by its contempo
raries of the Southern Press. It is almost daily
referred to as the
“THE BEST PAPER IN
THE SOUTH,”
‘tho lending Georgia daily,” elc., and it is gen
erally conceded to be in all respects a model
Southern newspaper.
This is the fame that the Morning News covets,
and no pains will be spared hereafter to make
it still worthier of the confidence and patronage
of the people of Georgia and Florida. The am
ple resources of the establishment will be devo
ted to the improvement of the paper in respect
to its already large facilities for gathering tho
current news of the day, and it? staff of special
correspondents has been reorganized with a view
to meeting every possible contingency that may
arise.
Although the Morning News has little or no
competition within the field of its circulation,
ncverihetess no effort will be considered too ex
pensive that gives tho
EARLIEST O FRESHEST
inh. rm at ion to its readers. In tais respect thert
will bo no relaxation of the endeavor to keep i
far ahead of all its contemporaries.
The features that have rendered the paper so
popular will be maintained. The editorial de
partment will be conducted with the same digni
fied thoughtfulness, conservative vigor, and
earnest
idevotion g Principle
that have always characterized it. The racy
reliability of the local, and the accuracy and
completeness of the commercial department,
will be kept at the old standard, and im
provements will be made wherever they are
suggested by experience.
The Morning News is the only Savannah
paper that publishes Ihe Associated Press
dispatches and the telegraphic market re
ports authorized by the Commercial Bureau
of New York City. In addition to this the
local market reports will be full and reliable,
and will he accompanied by such comment
ns will enable the business rnen of Georgia
and Florida to form estimates as accurate
and as intelligent as if they were in the city.
