Sex offender's list available on GBI, BCSO websites The Georgia Bureau of Investigation maintains a list of registered sex offenders on its website (www.ganet.org/gbi). The GBI is the central reposi tory for Georgia’s Violent Sexual Offender Registry. The registry contains information about sex offenders who have been released from prison, placed on probation, parole or supervised released after July 1, 1996. The website contains a search form where offenders may be located based on name, city, zip code or county. The list can also be viewed on the Banks County Sheriff’s Office website. For each offender, the website details the offender’s address, physical description, age, date of conviction and crime. Most of the offenders also have photos available. By state law, a sex offender will be notified by the Georgia Department of Corrections, the Georgia Board of Pardons & Paroles, and/or pri vate probation agencies that they must register as a sex offender with a sheriff and their county of residence, county of employment and county where they are attend ing school. Sexual offenders will remain on the registry for a period of 10 years and will receive a verification form each year on the anniversary of their initial registration. Sexual predators are required to verify their information every 90 days and remain on the registry for life. As of July 1, 1999, sexual offend ers who have more than one prior conviction for an offense listed by state law — or who have been con- victed of an aggravated offense, such as aggravated child molesta tion — will remain on the registry for life and will receive a verifica tion form each year on the anniver sary of their initial registration. If the offender is enrolled, employed or carries on a vocation at an institution of higher education in Georgia, they are required to provide the name, school address or enrollment status. Offenders who move to another state are required to report to the sheriff’s office where they last registered with in the state, and to designate a law enforcement agen cy in their new state of residence. Offenders who move to another county in Georgia, are required to register with the sheriff of their new county of residence in addi tion to notifying the sheriff of their previous county of residence.
