We are going to have to keep teams from scoring a great deal.” The rather long gap in playing actual games is something which concerns the Lady Leopard coach. King had his team play a full scrim- mage last Friday in practice but knows that does not take the place of playing a game. “In some ways the layoff is good because we have so much to work on,” he said. “However, you still need to play in a game environment to see where you are at. There is nothing we can do about the layoff, however, since teams dropped us.” The layoff has given the Lady Leopards a chance to get healthy as several players were battling sprained ankles. Amy Sims has been lost for the season because of a ACL injury. King said Sims’ loss is a major one because she provided a defensive spark for the team. Wheaton said he is not surprised that Buford is making one final appeal to get into 8-AA. This makes the fourth appeal since 2006 school officials at Buford High School have made in an attempt to be placed back in Region 8-AA where it has competed in the past. In a follow-up to last week’s story about the Buford appeal, Commerce High School principal Donnie Drew, who is a member of the reclassi fication committee, contacted The Banks County News Friday to say he did not vote to allow Buford back into 8-AA.
