R. David Beaty, MD is board certified in obstetrics and gyne cology. He has been in practice for 11 years. He is a native of Lawrenceville and a gradu ate of the University of Georgia and Mercer University School of Medicine. Dr. Beaty will be scheduling appointments for his Commerce office on Wednesday afternoons. Dr. Beaty has been granted privileges to perform surgi- Horse Lover's Field Day planned The second annual Horse Lover’s Field Day will be held at Grove River Ranch in Banks County on Saturday, March 29. The event is a benefit for the Banks County 4-H Horsemanship Club, co-sponsored by the UGA Extension Service of Banks County. There will be educational speakers on various equine topics, eques trian demonstrations, a parade of breeds, a hayride tour of the ranch, vendors, food concessions, door prizes and a raffle. Last year’s event was very well attended, drawing visitors from 17 counties. Sautee Contra Dance planned Saturday night The Sautee Contra Dance will be held on Saturday, Jan. 12, in the gym of the Sautee Nacoochee Center. Live music will be provided by Ed Baggot and Elsi Peterson, with caller Becky Walker of Walhalla. A potluck supper will begin at 6:30 p.m. Lessons begin at 7:30 p.m. The full dance will be held from 8-11 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for students. Operated strictly by volunteer workers, the BJCMC Auxiliary mem bers donate countless hours assisting BJCMC in various ways. Their fund-raising efforts of the Wishing Well Gift Shop, as well as hosting a range of other fund-raising sales and activities, have been used to purchase state-of-the-art hospital equipment, enhance patient care and support other employee activities. This year’s Christmas Sale allowed the auxiliary to donate three new pieces of additional exercise equipment to the BJCMC Wellness Center located at 615 Hospital Road. The president of the auxiliary, Edna Hix, recently presented a $2,000 check to Tom Durham, director of the Wellness Center. for the purchase of a Life Fitness recumbent bike, incline bench press and a lower abdominal stand. “We give our time and effort to help raise money for BJC Medical Center and Nursing Home projects for which other sources of funding are not available,” said Edna Hix, auxiliary president. “The auxiliary plays a critical role and the volunteers are all an impor tant part of the BJCMC Team,” said Hospital CEO, Jim Yarborough. “In addition to providing volunteer services and fund-raising, they help unite the hospital with the community. Free astronomy sessions slated Need help with a new telescope? The North Georgia Astronomers group will be offering free help on two weekends in January to area stargazers. According to Robert Webb, president of NGA, the group will host a session on Jan. 12 in Dahlonega and on Jan. 19 in Gainesville. Webb said that Mars is up in the night sky for the best viewing in several years. Stargazers may even get to see Mars hit by an asteroid on Jan. 30.
