Survivors include daughters and sons- in-law, June and Jerry Carlan and Joyce and Dillard Ausburn, all of Homer; grandson and spouse, Zane and Mandy Ausburn; great-grand daughter, Alexis Ausburn; sisters, Mary Turpin and Bertha Whitfield, both of Homer, and Rose Leachman, Commerce. Paid Obit William Kent William Dwight Kent, 60, of Maysville, died Tuesday, January 8, 2008. Born in Jackson County, he was the son of Virginia Moore and step-father, Joe Moore, of Maysville, and the late Thurston William Kent. He was a member of Center Grove Baptist Church, a graduate of Commerce High School, and an avid race car driver and fan. Mr. Kent was preceded in death by sons, Kyle and Chad Kent. Survivors include a daugh ter, Amber Kent, Los Angeles, Calif.; brother and sister- in-law, Darrell and Carol Kent, Hoschton; nephew and wife, Brandon and Jill Kent, Hoschton; niece and husband, Danielle and Laray Cross; and a number of other relatives. Funeral services were held Friday, January 11, in the chapel of Little Davenport Funeral home. Burial was in Center Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The Banks County News, January 16, 2008. Eleanor Reid Eleanor Nervia Gowder Reid, 81, of Clarkesville, died Friday, January 11, 2008, at her residence, following an extended illness. She was born in Banks County on January 25, 1926, the daughter of the late William Edward and India Parsons Gowder. She was a dental assistant, having worked for Dr. Randy Daniel with 25 years of dedicated service. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Morrow, and attended Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Mrs. Reid was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Coy Reid; sisters, Dr. Fredna Waters and Callie Burke; and brothers, Frank Gowder and Swayne Gowder. She was an avid Braves base ball fan, enjoyed watching game shows, and listening to gospel music. She was very musically inclined, having played the piano for several years, but most important ly, she was an exceptional grandmother, according to loved ones. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, David and Angy Reid, Sautee; sisters, Edna Elrod and Ethel Tanner, both of Clarkesville; grand children, Matthew and Sherry Reid, Kristena and Coenraad Brand, Liberty Nelligan and Beatrice Nelligan; great- granddaughter, Brooke MaryElle Reid; sister-in-law, Frances Gowder, Macon; brother-in-law, M.L. Burke, Atherton, Calif.; and special caregivers, Betty Jackson, Judy Weaver, Sharon Jones and Betty Seabolt. Funeral services were held Sunday, January 13, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Banks County with Dr. Randy Daniel and the Rev. Swayne Carlan officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with the Rev. James Duncan offi ciating. Bonnie Hensley Miss Bonnie Marie Hensley, 82, of Lula, died Thursday, January 10, 2008, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, following a sud den illness. Peggy Gilmer Peggy Bryan Gilmer, 76, of Gainesville, died Monday, January 7, 2008, at the Bell- Minor Home in Gainesville, following an extended ill ness. She was born on December 7, 1930, in Jackson County, the daughter of the late Bunch and Edna Webb Bryan. She was a member of Blackshear Place Baptist Church, and also a member of the Young at Heart Bible Study Class. Mrs. Gilmer was preceded in death by her husband, A.C. Gilmer; sisters, Lois Bryan Burke, Thelma Bryan Kent and Marion Bryan Gee. She was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmoth er, according to loved ones. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Lanier and Carol Gilmer, Gainesville; daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and James Duncan, Homer, Nancy and Rodney Middlebrooks, Snellville, and Tina and Jack Queen, Gainesville; grandchildren, Jeromie Gilmer, Heather Gilmer Marshall, Tracie Duncan Hammond, Warren Duncan, Jerry C. Cheeks, and Hollie Crowe; 13 great grandchildren; and a host of other friends and relatives. Allen, 60, of Danielsville, died Wednesday, January 9, 2008, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Athens. He was the son of the late Ben P. and Fannie Cannon Allen, and worked in the main tenance department at Commerce High School, retiring after 31 years. He was a member of Rogers Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for 38 years. Mr. Allen was a veteran, having served in the United States Army during World War II. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Syble Clark Allen; daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Leon Fitzpatrick, Danielsville; brother, Wallace Allen, Gastonia, N.C.; grand daughter and spouse, Christy and Mitch Porterfield; great grandchildren, Mason and Connor Porterfield. Funeral services were held Friday, January 11, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home with the Revs. Wayne Douglas, Johnny Thompson, Carlton Peters and Mike Sarna officiating. Survivors include her husband, James Puckett, Commerce; a son, Johnny Hayes, Atlanta; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Joe Parr, Commerce; broth er, Pete Haynes, Commerce; sisters, Estelle Denton and Jean Hooper, both of Commerce; grandchildren, Christie Chambers, Jake Hayes, Kimberly and Kevin Smallwood; and one great grandchild, Jordan Tanner. He was the son Robyn Long of Gainesville and the late Ray Long and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oakwood. He was a graduate of West Hall High School and attended Gainesville State University. He was loved by many peo ple and will be truly missed, loved ones stated. He loved cars and his favorite pet cat, Victor. Survivors in addition to his mother, include a sis ter, Amber Long, Daytona, Fla.; step-brothers, Robert Churchill and Chris Churchill, both of Blue Ridge; grandmother, Eulene Wilson, Oakwood; aunts, Judy Turpine, Dahlonega, and Shirley Walters, Alto; uncles, Steve Roberts, Lula, and Randall Long, Gainesville; a great-aunt, Nell Roberts, Oakwood; and several cous ins and friends.
