The new year came in with excitement for teachers of
the Banks County School System.
Earlier this month, the faculty was privileged to
hear Emily Jennette, Georgia’s state School Teacher
of the Year. When introducing her to the crowd,
Superintendent Chris Erwin, said, “Ms. Jennette shares
many of the same values that we have in our system as
she is a strong advocate of teacher mentoring programs
and focuses on providing students with the opportuni
ties to take active roles in what they learn while offer
ing them the time for self-reflection and meaningful
improvement of their cognitive development.”
Her message stressed the importance of differenti
ated instruction and equity in the classroom.
Jennette most recently taught second grade at Sawyer
Road Elementary School in Marietta. She is a gradu
ate of the University of Alabama with a master’s
degree in elementary education from Kennesaw State
University.
“My experiences growing up overseas taught me to
value different cultures and customs that have influ
enced my beliefs about teaching,” said Jennette during
her address. Jennette has been out of the classroom
touring the state speaking to various organizations
about quality education.
The Banks County School System Teacher of the
Year, David Casciano, will soon vie for the upcoming
year’s title of State School Teacher of the Year. The
winner will be announced by the Georgia Department
of Education this spring.
