WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 23, 2008 THE BANKS COUNTY NEWS PAGE 3B BCHS boys... continued from page 1B The BCHS coach said Fannin County, which eventually won 66-46, was allowing Beasley to drive to the basket so Ruth decided to allow the junior to take advantage of his quickness. Beasley finished with a team-high 12 points along with Armour. Duncan added 11 points and played his best game of the season, Ruth said. “We used our press and got back in the game,” the coach said. “However, in the third quarter we took some ill-advised attempts and they capitalized and we were down by double digits again.” BCHS did manage to trim down its turnover total from its last outing from 31 to 20. In the first half, BCHS was whis tled for 11 fouls as compared to just two for Fannin County. “We are making some progress,” Ruth said as he was preparing for Monday’s afternoon practice ses sion. “We did need to do a better job against Fannin County blocking out. They were big and you have to make contact. We battled them, however.” The veteran coach said it is also vital for his players to not panic when an opponent goes on a run. Dustin Worley was held to six points by Fannin County while Ryan Griffin was limited to three. Chris McDuffie finished with two points. The Leopards will travel to Union County Friday for a 7:30 p.m. con test. BATTUNG FOR A BASKET Banks County High School's Ryan Griffin works for position in the paint Friday. BCHS Girls Basketball... continued from page 1B Freshman Lindsey McDuffie, who continues to contribute valuable minutes at the varsity level, added three points while Samm Kennedy scored two. BCHS was scheduled to play at Dawson County Tuesday night and will travel to Union County Friday. The Lady Leopards will step out of subregion play Saturday for a game with rival Commerce High School. “We are getting better,” King said. “We were only able to work on the stall for an hour. The girls were excited about trying it. I think if we had more time to practice it, we could have been more effective.” School was not held last Thursday at BCHS because of the weather which meant the team could not practice.
