Rupert Jenkins
Rupert Andrew Jenkins Jr., 94, of
Baldwin, died Friday, January 18,
2008, at Lanier Park Campus, follow
ing an extended illness.
He was born in Habersham
County on February 24, 1913, the
son of the late Rupert Andrew
Sr. and Rose Lindsey Jenkins. He
was employed for several years at
Piedmont Automotive and was a
member of Hills Crossing Baptist
Church. Mr. Jenkins was preceded in
death by his wife, Lucy Nichelson
Jenkins; sons, Donald and Terry
Jenkins; brothers, Ray and Harold
Jenkins; two grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
Survivors include daughters, Doris
Free and Linda Wilbanks, both of
Demorest, Joyce Taylor, Clarkesville,
Willene Stewart, Mt. Airy, and
Kathy Mitchell, Cornelia; sons,
Jimmy Jenkins and Leon Jenkins,
both of Clarkesville, Ricky Jenkins,
Alto; brothers, Bruce Jenkins,
Lawrenceville, and Gene Jenkins,
Dawsonville; sister, Catherine
Coleman, Atlanta; 25 grandchildren;
36 great-grandchildren; 11 great-
great-grandchildren; and several
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday,
January 21, at Hills Crossing Baptist
Church with the Revs. Donald
Holbrook and Walter Singletary
officiating. Burial was in the church
cemetery.

Clara Mae Wright
Clara Mae McClure Wright, 91,
of Alto, died Thursday, January 17,
2008, at a private healthcare facility,
following an extended illness.
She was born in Banks County
on November 7, 1916, the daugh
ter of the late Archie “Todd” and
Hattie Martin McClure. She was
a homemaker, a member of Enon
Baptist Church, and was employed
for several years at Carwood
Manufacturing as a machine opera
tor. She and her husband co-owned
Wright’s Peach Orchard for well over
30 years. Mrs. Wright was preced
ed in death by her husband of 70
years, the Rev. Lawrence B. Wright;
and a sister, Christine Caudell. She
enjoyed embroidering, according to
loved ones.
Survivors include daughters and
sons-in-law, Grace and T.J. Kemp,
Gainesville, and Brooksy and Doyle
White, Lula; sisters and brother-
in-law, Eunice Berry, Clarkesville,
Hazel and Frank Nicholson,
Westland, Mich.; brother-in-law,
Harold Caudell, Lula; grandchildren,
Milton White, Clinton White, Vickie
Crocker, Elizabeth Winham, Jeanene
Escover and Lisa Collins; eight great
grandchildren; and several nieces
and nephews.
Funeral services were held
Monday, January 21, at Enon Baptist
Church with the Revs. Tommy
Crocker, David Harbin and Doug
Collins officiating. Burial was in the
church cemetery with the Rev. Josh
Crocker officiating.

Rachel Fabor
Rachel Louise Boyd Fabor, 73,
of Lula, died Thursday, January 17,
2008, at her residence, following an
extended illness.
She was born in Hall County, the
daughter of the late Marion and
Euna Armstead Boyd. She was a
member of the Lula First Baptist
Church and was retired from AT&T.
Mrs. Fabor was preceded in death by
her husband, Albert Dean Fabor; her
first husband, Alger J. Scales; and a
brother, Royce Boyd.
Survivors include a son, Howard
Scales, Gainesville; daughter and
son-in-law, Linda and Curtis Aikens,
Gainesville; sister, Marie Ferguson,
Cleveland; brothers and sisters-
in-law, Johnny and Marvine Boyd,
Gillsville, Hoyt and Jean Boyd,
Lula, and Melvin and Juanita Boyd,
Gainesville; sister-in-law, Tobie Boyd,
Gainesville; and many nieces, neph-
ews and other family and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday,
January 20, in the chapel of Memorial
Park Funeral Home. Burial was in
Memorial Park Cemetery.

Sylvia Rankins
Sylvia McWhirt Rankins,
64, of Maysville, formerly of
Fredericksburg, Va., died Sunday,
January 20, 2008, at St. Mary’s
Medical Center in Athens.
She was the daughter of Doris
McWhirt of Spotsylvania, Va. She
was a graduate of Spotsylvania High
School in Virginia, and a member of
Temple Baptist Church.
Survivors in addition to her moth
er, include a son and daughter-in-law,
Derek and Kim Ingalls, Spotsylvania,
Va.; grandchildren, Danielle Ingalls,
Keri Ingalls and Tyler Ingalls; sisters
and brothers-in-law, Carolyn and
Robert Whitaker, Spotsylvania, Va.,
Elaine and Clint Wood, Jackson; a
niece and spouse, Candice and Chris
Davis; nephew and spouse, Cameron
and Thuy Whitaker, Fredericksburg,
Va.; and her two Jack Russell terriers,
Harry and Terra.
Memorial services were held
Tuesday, January 22, at Maysville
Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held
Saturday, January 26, in the chapel of
Covenant Funeral Home. Burial will
be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Virginia
Standridge
Mildred Virginia Standridge, 83,
of Commerce, died Sunday, January
20, 2008, at BJC Nursing Home in
Commerce.
She was born on November
26, 1924, in Madison County, the
daughter of the late Willie and Tex
Thomas White. She was retired from
the Harmony Grove Mill and was
a member of the Madison Street
Baptist Church. Mrs. Standridge was
preceded in death by her husband,
the Rev. Gilbert Standridge.
Survivors include a son, Steve
Standridge, Nicholson; daughters,
Joan Campbell and Patsy Standridge,
both of Commerce; brother, Charles
White, Commerce; sisters, Sara Ann
Daniels and Geraldine Toney, both
of Commerce; three grandchildren;
and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held
Wednesday, January 23, in the cha
pel of Little-Ward Funeral Home
with the Rev. David Harbin offi
ciating. Burial was in Cabin Creek
Baptist Church Cemetery.

Barry Gardiner
Barry Nelson Gardiner, 60, of
Commerce, died Tuesday, January
15, 2008, at BJC Nursing Home in
Commerce.
He was the son of Frances
Geraldine Bennett Gardiner of
Commerce and the late Edward
Junior Gardiner.
Survivors in addition to his mother,
include a sister, Shelby Scarborough,
Commerce; brother, Wayne Gardiner,
Commerce; and a number of nieces
and nephews.

Cameron Gerber, 14 year old son
of David and Lisa Gerber Guthrie of
Commerce, died Thursday, January
17, 2008.
He was a student at Commerce
Middle School.

Guthrie; grandparents, Roby and
Cathy Lewallen, Auburn, and Bud

Nellie Fortner
Nellie Ruth Munn Fortner, 65, of
Braselton, died Monday, January 14,
2008.
She was born in Florence County,
S.C., and lived in the metro Atlanta
area the past 48 years. She was a
loving wife, mother and grandmoth
er, a homemaker, and was Baptist,
according to loved ones.
Survivors include her husband,
Eugene Fortner, Jefferson; daugh
ters and sons-in-law, Christine and
Terry McDaniel, Braselton, Shirley
and Mike Palmer, Maysville; sons,
Edward Fortner and Johnny Fortner,
both of Jefferson; 15 grandchildren,
Tammy and Jason Parr, Crystal
Palmer, Christinia McDaniel, all
of Danielsville, Genia and Bradley
Green, Christopher Fortner, Kayla
Fortner, all of Gainesville, Jason and
Tiffany McDaniel, Anthony Fortner,
Wiley Fortner, all of Braselton,
Kristina Fortner, Kattie Palmer, both
of Maysville, and Jonathan Fortner,

'Ernie' Nash
Robert “Ernie” Nash, 61, of
Bethlehem, died Tuesday, January
15, 2008.
A native of Fulton County, he was
the son of the late
Henry Willard and
Annie Rumel Noggle
Nash. He was Baptist
and was a retired resi
dential carpenter. Mr. Nash was a
veteran, having served in the United
States Army.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie
Nash, Bethlehem; daughter and
son-in-law, Tamela and Kevin Rock,
Huntersville, N.C.; son, Douglas
Lopez, Lula; sister, Ann Nash,
Winder; brothers, Emory Nash and
Roger Nash, both of Winder; and
grandchildren, Brooklyn Rock and
Breanna Rock, Huntersville, N.C.
Funeral services were held
Saturday, January 19, in the chapel
of Carter Funeral Home with Dr.
James Rock officiating. Entombment
was in Barrow Memorial Gardens
Mausoleum.

Betty Palmer
Betty Palmer, 76, of Cornelia, died
Saturday, January 19, 2008, at her
residence.
She was born in Banks County
on January 14, 1932, the daugh
ter of the late Hubert and Callie
Westmoreland Carpenter. She was a
member of the Light House Baptist
Church and formerly owned and
operated Charlies Quick Shop. She
was the last of her immediate fam
ily. Mrs. Palmer was preceded in
death by her husband, Charles B.
Palmer; brothers, Clarence, Clyde
and Ulyses Carpenter.
Survivors include a son, Shane
Palmer, Clayton; and three grand
children.
Funeral services were held Tuesday,
January 22, at the Whitfield Funeral
Home with the Rev. Charles Jenkins
officiating. Burial was in Harmony
Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pauline Keith
Pauline Garrett Keith, 89, of
Gainesville, died Saturday, January
19, 2008, at New Horizons North
Nursing Home, following an extend
ed illness.
She was born on December 26,
1918, in Forsyth County, the daugh
ter of the late Oscar and Pearl Moss
Keith. She spent most of her life in
Hall County, where she worked a
number of years at the Georgiana
Restaurant. She was a member of
Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Mrs.
Keith was preceded in death by her
husband, Robert Ezra Keith; brother,
Claude Garrett; sister, Cleo McNeal;
and granddaughter, Marsha Edge.
Survivors include sons, R.B. Keith,
Chicopee, James Ezra Keith and Ray
Garrett, both of Gainesville; daugh
ters, Corrine Edge, New Holland,
Geneva Thomas, Cleveland, and
Belle Winters, Lula; a sister, Clara
Grier, Dawsonville; 12 grandchil
dren; 22 great-grandchildren; and
one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held
Monday, January 21, in the chapel of
Wards Funeral Home with the Rev.
Fulton Boswell officiating. Burial
was in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church
Cemetery.

Rev. Robert Moon
The Rev. Robert Chester Moon,
96, of Gainesville, died Friday,
January 18, at Lanier Park Hospital
in Gainesville, following an extend
ed illness.
Born in Cobb County, he was the
son of the late Josephus and Rachel
Ayers Moon. Mr. Moon was pre
ceded in death by his wife, Kathleen
Moon; daughter, Betty Tapp; grand
son, Samuel Tapp; granddaughter,
Sheila Jean Tapp; and great-grand
son, Dustin Gailey.
He began his ministry at the
Gainesville C.H. Church in
Gainesville in the early 1940s, and
was ordained in the ministry in 1948.
He also ministered in the Yonah
C.H. Church, Rock Hill C.H. Church,
Faith Tabernacle C.H. Church, Talmo,
Flowery Branch C.H. Church and
Murrayville C.H. Church. He was a
charter member of Faith Tabernacle
C.H. Church in Talmo, where he
taught the Adult Sunday School
Class for many years. He was retired
from Milliken.
Survivors include daughters and
son-in-law, Rachel Hooper, Alto,
Glenda and the Rev. Jeff Gailey,
Talmo; grandson, Michael Tapp,
Brunswick; granddaughters and
spouse, Vicki H. and Wendell Sullens
and LaDonna Plum, all of Alto;
grandsons and spouses, Jonathan
and Rebecca Hooper, Lawrenceville,
the Rev. Jeffery and Nita Gailey,
Talmo, David and Lisa Gailey, Lula,
Phillip and April Gailey; 14 great
grandchildren; 10 great-great-grand
children; and a host of other family
and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday,
January 20, at the Gainesville
Congregational Holiness Church
with the Revs. Jeffrey Gailey and
Jeff Gailey officiating. Burial was in
Memorial Park Cemetery.

R. Darwin Frankum
R. Darwin Frankum, Jr., 69, of
Gillsville, died Thursday, January 17,
at Emory University Hospital, fol
lowing a sudden illness.
He was born on December 10,
1938, in Hall County, the son of
the late Reo Darwin Frankum Sr.
and Margaret House Frankum. He
was a graduate of the University
of Georgia, had worked for
Macklanburg Duncan Co. for 30
years, and was a vice president for
Loxcreen Company. He was a mem
ber of Kiwanis Club, Chattahoochee
Country Club, Friends of Gillsville,
and the Blackshear Place Baptist
Church, where he served on the
welcome team, and a member of
the Homer Myers Bible Fellowship
Class. He was an avid golfer and
loved the University of Georgia
football. He had a great love for his
family, especially his grandchildren,
loved ones stated.
Survivors include his wife, Jackie
R. Frankum, Gillsville; son and
daughter-in-law, Greg and Sherri
Frankum, Gainesville; daughter
and son-in-law, Anita Frankum
and Shanon Brown, Douglasville;
step-daughters and spouses, Lisa
and Chad Hayes, Flowery Branch,
and Emily and Joe Hicks, Dacula;
a sisters and brother-in-law, Judy
Franklin, Mt. Airy, Gayle and Henry
Reed, Flowery Branch; grandchil
dren, Ryan Brown, Nicole Brown,
Will Frankum, Brinkley Frankum,
Haley Frankum, Molly Hayes, Ellie
Hayes, and Bailey Hicks; sister-in
law and brother-in-law, Heather and

Place Baptist Church with the Revs.

Vernelle Wilbanks
Vernelle G. Wilbanks, 86, under
the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice
in Statesboro, died Tuesday, January
22, 2008.
She was born, raised and educated
in Banks County, moving to Claxton
in 1947. She was a secretary and
bookkeeper for Wilbanks Apiaries,
Inc. for many years and was a mem
ber of the First United Methodist
Church of Claxton, member of the
Service Sunday School Class.. Mrs.
Wilbanks was preceded in death by
her husband, Warren G. Wilbanks,
and was a devoted housewife, loved
ones stated.
Survivors include sons and
daughters-in-law, Tommy and
Janice Wilbanks, Statesboro, and
Reg and Alva Wilbanks, Claxton;
grandsons and spouses, Patrick and
Natalie Wilbanks, Statesboro, and
Dr. Timothy Wilbanks and Sara,
Washington, Iowa; a granddaughter,
Jessica Wilbanks, Macon; four great
grandchildren, Ben, Barrett, Ansley
and Harrison; and several nieces,
nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held
Thursday, January 24, at 2 p.m., in the
chapel of J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral
Home. Burial will be in Brewton
Cemetery.
