Benefit singing planned Feb. 2
A benefit singing will be held Saturday, February
2, at 6 p.m. at the Jaemore Barn, located at Jaemore
Farm Market on Hwy. 365 in Alto.
Featured singers will be The Lord’s Messengers,
The Goss Brothers and The New Bryants.
A love offering will be received during the sing
ing. A meal will be served to any one making a
donation.
All proceeds will go to the food ministry of Enon
Baptist Church, Alto.

Special event planned Friday
St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Mission will be
open on Friday, February 1, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
for Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
Parishioners of St. Catherine’s are asked to bring
their old palms to Church by Sunday, February 3.
The palms will be burned after the 11 a.m. Mass and
be distributed at both services on Ash Wednesday.
There will also be a short organizational meet
ing for Relay for Life after the 11 a.m. Mass on
February 3. Plans for St. Catherine’s participation in
this year’s relay will be discussed
The services on Ash Wednesday, February 6,
include Mass at 12:10 p.m. and a Communion
Service at 7 p.m.
St. Catherine Laboure is located at 708 State Street
in Commerce.

Tri-county group to meet Sat.
The Tri-County Ministerial Association will hold
its monthly meeting Saturday, February 2, at 8:00
a.m. in the conference room at BJC Medical Center.
The business session will follow breakfast.
All ministers, laypersons and missionaries in Banks,
Jackson and Madison counties are invited.
Black History program set Feb. 17
Mt. Pleasant CME Church, Commerce, will
hold its annual Black History program on Sunday,
February 17, at 3 p.m.
The Rev. Eddie Thornton, pastor of Flat Rock
CME Church, will be the guest speaker.
A dinner will be served in the fellowship hall fol
lowing the service.
“Come join and celebrate with us,” church lead
ers said.
Revival services ahead Feb. 3-6
Canaan Baptist Church will hold revival services
Sunday, Feb. 3, through Wednesday, Feb. 6.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. on
Sunday and at 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.
The Rev. Mike Bagwell, Cummings, will be the
guest speaker. The Canaan Baptist Church Choir
will sing at each service.

Homer UMC to honor women
Homer United Methodist Church will honor the
work of the Women in Mission Sunday, February
3, as the congregation celebrates “United Methodist
Women Day” during both the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
services.
Judie Wendt, local UMW president, has planned
both worship hours, assisted by Hannah Thompson
and Judy Thompson. Barbara Head, Cleveland, long
time UMW leader in the Gainesville District, will
address both congregations.
The two services, including those who assist in
worship, will be conducted entirely by women of the
church.
Men are encouraged to attend in large numbers to
show support for the group, said pastor, the Rev. Jim
McLendon.
The church is located at the corner of Sycamore
and Church streets in downtown Homer.
Community Brotherhood to meet
Community Brotherhood members will hear Neals
Grove pastor the Rev. Johnny Smith this Sunday,
February 3, at 7:30 a.m. when the group meets for its
monthly breakfast program at the fellowship hall of
Homer United Methodist Church.
The Rev. Roy Rogers is president. Male guests are
always welcome to attend the monthly breakfast,
organizers said.
Ash Wednesday service planned
The annual Ash Wednesday service of Homer
United Methodist Church will be held on February
6 at 7 p.m. in the church sanctuary.
Imposition of ashes symbolizing repentance will
be a part of the historic service marking the begin
ning of the season of Lent, a period before Easter
lasting 40 days (not including Sundays).
The church’s choir will provide special music.
The pastor, the Rev. Jim McLendon, will preach on
the subject “Hypocrites.”
GAINESVILLE CHURCH HOSTS TRAINING EVENT
The Gainesville District of the United Methodist Church recently hosted an annual training
event for local church leaders at First United Methodist Church, Gainesville. Lay delegates
and pastors from Banks and Jackson counties were among those in Northeast Georgia that
numbered 500 in attendance. Dr. Gerald Thurman, superintendent, presided over the work
shop, which offered more than 15 afternoon courses dealing with mission and ministry.
The training event is always held in January at Gainesville First United Methodist and is one
among several in the North Georgia Conference.
Benefit singing ahead Saturday
Freedom Church of God, Commerce, will hold a
benefit singing Saturday, February 2.
The singing will begin at 5 p.m.
The featured singers will be the Wall Sisters, That
Same Spirit and others.
A hotdog and hamburger supper will follow at 7
p.m.
The church is located at 3428 Neese Commerce
Road.
‘Dinner and a Movie' available
Homer United Methodist Church has begun
offering free of charge twice monthly on second
and fourth Sundays a program from all ages called,
“A Dinner and a Movie.”
The movie is inspirational in nature, and the din
ner is served free of charge in Don Stewart Hall, the
church banquet room.
Dianne Cochran, director of Christian education
and youth, coordinates the program.

Matt Dibler will be the guest
speaker. Dibler is the lead
singer for The Inspirations, a
gospel group. He is also the
pastor of Crossroads Baptist
Church, Lawrenceville.
Music will be provided by the Crossroads Baptist
Church Choir Sunday night.
Special music is planned each night, including a
performance by The Brown Family.
Church news is due by noon on Mondays
