NEAL'S GROVE PASTOR ADDRESSES BROTHERHOOD

pancake supper set
for Tuesday, Feb. 12
Homer United Methodist Men
will sponsor its seventh annual
pancake supper next Tuesday, Feb.
12, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. in the
church’s fellowship area desig
nated Don Stewart Hall.
Dine-in or carry-out for $6 per
plate. Enjoy pancakes (all you
can eat), coffee, bacon and coun
try sausage. Proceeds will ben
efit UMM projects, locally and
beyond.
The church fellowship hall is
located at the corner of Sycamore
and Church Streets in downtown
Homer.
Blacks Creek to mark
205th anniversary
Blacks Creek Baptist Church,
Commerce, will be celebrating the
205 th anniversary of the founding
of the church on Feb. 10.
Sunday School will begin at 9:45
a.m. and the worship service will
begin at 10:30 a.m. with a special
inspirational music program by
Phil Brown and the Browns from
Commerce.
The church is located at 3754
Blacks Creek Church Road which
is just off Hwy. 98 and the 441 by
pass. Bill Carpenter is pastor.
Easter is early this year
Easter Day arrives early in 2008,
the date being Sunday, March 23.
Ash Wednesday on Feb. 6, marks
the beginning of Lent, a season
of spiritual preparation lasting 40
days leading up to Easter, the
day Christians believe Jesus Christ
arose from the dead. The resurrec
tion of Christ is fundamental to the
Christian faith.

Methodist Observes
Boy Scout Sunday
Homer United Methodist Church
is the sponsoring institution for
both Cub Scout Pack 106 and
Boy Scout Troop 106. Boy Scout
Sunday will be observed by thou
sands of churches across America
this Sunday, and Homer UMC is
one of them. Special recognition
will be given to troop and pack
members and leaders at the 11
a.m. service.
Tom Nix is Scoutmaster, and
Kevin Davis is Cubmaster.
Maysville Baptist
plans ladies night
Maysville Baptist Church,
Maysville, will host their 12 th
annual “Lady’s Night Out” on
March 6 at 5:45 p.m.
“Your Scars are Beautiful to
God” is the topic, led by guest
speaker Sharon Jaynes.

Dale Lister named
New deacon for St.
Catherine Laboure
Dale Lister will be ordained by
Archbishop Wilton D. Gregory
as deacon on Friday, Feb. 8, at 7
p.m., at the Cathedral of Christ the
King, Atlanta.
Lister will serve as deacon for
St. Catherine Laboure Catholic
Mission in Commerce and
St. Mary’s Catholic Church in
Toccoa.
There will be a reception to
honor the new deacon on Saturday,
Feb. 9, at 1 p.m., at the Commerce
Civic Center. All parishioners and
friends are invited, however, since
the event is catered, organizers are
asking for reservations by calling
the church at 706-335-2622.

al Black History program on

will be the guest speaker.
A dinner will be served in the
fellowship hall following the ser
vice.

planned Saturday
a Valentine’s Day breakfast on
Saturday, Feb. 9 at 9 a.m.

addressed both morning congregations at Homer United
Methodist last Sunday as the church celebrated "United
Methodist Women Day.” Local UMW president, Judie Wendt, is
seen here (left) welcoming the honored guest to the pulpit of
the church. Both services were conducted entirely by women.
There are an equal number of women serving North Georgia
churches as pastors as are men, according to Mrs. Head, speak
ing of the United Methodist denomination.

REMINDED TO EXPECT THE
UNEXPECTED
Homer United Methodist
Church pastor, the Rev. Jim
McLendon, was reminded dur
ing the recent baptism of a
baby to always expect the
unexpected. When McLendon
took Dylan Kuykendall into his
arms the child grabbed hold
of the pastoris nose and did
not let go until the end of the
ceremony. Even after the bap
tism was over and McLendon
was carrying the child down
the center aisle and back for
the congregation to admire,
Dylan still held onto the pas-
torls nose. Dylan has a twin
sibling who was also baptized
Sunday. The twins' parents are
Kevin and Crystal Kuykendall
of Banks County.
