He weighed 8 pounds, 1 ounce and was 20 X A inches long. He joins a sister, Zoey, and a brother, Chase. The grandparents are Ted and Rita Hilton, Commerce; and Doug and Gail Forrester, Homer. 'STAR Reading' at Banks County Adult Learning Center The Banks County Adult Learning Center is offering a research-based reading program (STAR) that helps adults discover and develop specific skills that will increase their ability to read and understand written materials. “We individually test each student to identify his/her strengths and weak nesses in the areas of alphabetics (letter/sound relationships), vocabulary, comprehension, and reading fluency (rate) and then we will teach strategies to increase skills in each of these areas as needed,” said instructor Sharon Clark. The class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The program is open to all Banks County residents (18 and older) free of charge. Anyone who needs help with reading is asked to call the Banks County Adult Leaning Center (706-677-4302) and make an appointment for testing. “We will accept students until the class for this quarter is full, and we plan to add additional classes based on need,” Clark said. The Banks County Adult Learning Center’s hours for winter quarter are: Mondays/Wednesdays, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Tuesdays/Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Registration, testing and orientation are held on Fridays (by appointment only).
