60 YEARS OF SERVICE
The Rev. Gene Todd celebrated 60 years of ministry service on
Sunday. He is pastor of Damascus Baptist Church and is pictured
with wife, Ruth.
Damascus holds celebration weekend
Damascus Baptist Church, located in Banks County, held a celebration
weekend to dedicate its new building.
Imogene Lawrence Watts Rylee gave the church five acres of land in
which to build a new sanctuary and fellowship hall in 2002. The property
was deeded over and a ground breaking was held on July 24, 2005. The
steel exterior building was completed in March 2006.
According to church leaders, many parishioners and friends gave time,
talents and resources to finish the interior of the building. Pews were
donated by Fort Caroline Baptist Church, Jacksonville, Fla. Jeff Taylor
served as chairman of the building committee.
The church held its first service in the new building on December 16,
2007.
A “Celebration Weekend” was planned to celebrate the opening of the
new building. Beginning on Friday, February 24, church members attended
a youth revival led by the worship band of Truett McConnell College.
Saturday, the church hosted musicians for an all-day singing. The three-day
event culminated Sunday afternoon with a dedication service and musical
presentation by the church choir and special guests Joe and Kim Stanley.
The congregation also celebrated its pastor’s 60 year commitment to min
istry. The Rev. Gene Todd has served in the ministry since 1948.
SINGING SONGS OF PRAISE
Joe and Kim Stanley performed a short concert at the end of
the dedication service Sunday at Damascus Baptist Church.
