The residents started 2008 with a festive celebration that included a New Year’s Eve countdown, dropping balloons from the ceiling, and throwing confetti, then ended with a toast. Laughter and noise filled the dayroom and could be heard throughout the halls, organizers said. In February, many residents attended a memorial service to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. Deacon Archie Chaney recited the speech, “I Have a Dream.” The Reverend Henry Webb followed with many spirit lifting, encouraging words. An activities volunteer, provided music for the pro gram by performing on the piano. Before he began his comedy show, Sam Chaney photographed the program. The month of February is honored by showering one another with love, and the residents were in full force. Thanks to friends and family members, each resident received red carnations delivered by the BJCMC Auxiliary. After the Valentine’s Day party, the 2008 king and queen, Thomas Hawks and Marjorie Brand, were crowned.
