DEACONS HONORED AT GILLSVILLE
In a recent service at Gillsville Baptist Church, Bill Calhoun and
the church honored four men for their outstanding service to
the church as deacons. "These fine servants were recognized
for their leadership, dedication, length of service and their
servant's heart,” church leaders said. Pictured from left to

HOMER UMC OBSERVES PALM SUNDAY
Worshippers at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. gathered outside the sanctu
ary building at Homer United Methodist Church last Sunday in
preparation for proceeding down the church aisle bearing palm
branches on a day Christians througout the world observed
as Palm Sunday, the day Jesus Christ is believed to have rid
den a donkey into the holy city of Jerusalem in triumph as the
Messiah.
Easter services set
at Homer UMC
Homer United Methodist Church
will hold several services Holy
week.
Services include the following:
Holy Thursday, March 20, at 7
p.m., Communion service with
sermon “Simon Peter” (St. John
13:1-15); Good Friday, March 21,
at 7 p.m., Steve Lewallen will be
preaching; Easter Sunday, March
23, 7 a.m. Sunrise service at Banks
County Memorial Gardens, the
Rev. Bill Ford will be speaking;
8 a.m. breakfast will be served
in the family life center; 9 a.m.
early worship with sermon, “Mary
Magdalene” (St. John 20:1-9). The
Chancel Choir will sing at most
services.
The church is located at the
corner of Sycamore and Church
streets in downtown Homer.
Commerce churches
announce services
The congregations of six
Commerce churches have
announced a series of Holy Week
events to take place through
Sunday, March 23. The public is
invited to all of the services.
Commerce Presbyterian Church
will host a Maundy Thursday ser
vice Thursday, March 20, at 7
p.m. The First Baptist Church
of Commerce will host a Good
Friday service at 7 p.m. on Friday,
March 21, and the First United
Methodist Church will hold a sun
rise service on Easter Sunday,
March 23, at 7 a.m. Breakfast will
follow in the fellowship hall.
Each of the churches will have
their own services on Sunday
morning as well.
Glory announces
sunrise service Sun.
Glory Baptist Church will hold its
Easter sunrise service on March 23,
at 7 a.m. on the front lawn next to
U.S. Hwy. 441 and Banks County
High School.
Following the service, a breakfast
will be served in the fellowship hall.
Sunday school will begin at 10 a.m.,
followed by the worship service at
11 a.m.
Everyone is invited.

Special services set
at Diamond Hill
Diamond Hill Baptist Church,
Maysville, has announced its spe
cial services.
A foot washing and communion
service will be held on Friday,
March 21, at 7 p.m.
An Easter egg hunt will be held on
Saturday, March 22, from 2-4 p.m.
A sunrise service will be held
on Sunday, March 23, at 6:30 a.m.
The worship service will begin at
11 a.m.
Revival services will be held
Monday through Friday, March
24-28, at 7 p.m. The Rev. Bobby
Jones will be the guest preacher.
Mt. Bethel plans
Easter service
Mt. Bethel United Methodist
Church will hold its Easter service
on Sunday, March 23, at 8 a.m.
Breakfast will follow.
Everyone is welcomed.
The church is located at 295 Mt.
Bethel Road, off Hwy. 59, in Banks
County. The Rev. Lynn Gibson is
the pastor.
Silver Shoals to
hold revival services
Silver Shoals Baptist Church
will hold its 2008 spring revival
services Sunday, March 23, though
Friday, March 28.
The service will begin at 6 p.m.
on Sunday, and at 7 p.m., Monday
through Friday. Special singing
will be provided each night.
Chris York will be the guest
speaker.
The church is located off Yonah-
Homer Road on Silver Shoals Road,
1.5 miles from Catfish Corner.

Food offered to needy
Two area churches are joining
hands in a partnership with the Food
Bank of Northeast Georgia for a
food distribution on Wednesdays,
from 6-8 p.m.
Warren Chapel United Methodist
Church and Mt. Pleasant Christian
Methodist Episcopal Church will
help distribute food at Warren
Chapel’s fellowship hall, located at
468 Homer Road, Commerce.

Hudson River
plans Easter events
Hudson River Baptist Church has
announced Easter weekend events.
The church, located at 171 Hudson
River Church Road off of Hwy. 326,
will host an Easter egg hunt and
cookout Saturday at 3 p.m. The
event is open to the public.
On Sunday morning, the church
will hold a sunrise service at 7 a.m.,
and breakfast will follow.
Sunday school will follow at 10
a.m. and the morning worship ser
vice at 11. The Rev. Troy Herbert
is pastor.
Sunrise service
set in Commerce
Little Country Church, Commerce,
will observe sunrise service at 7:30
a.m. on Easter Sunday, March 23.
Swayne Cochran will lead the ser
vice. The service will be followed
by breakfast in the fellowship hall.
Regular Sunday School and
Sunday morning services will also
be held.
The church is located on Old
Airport Road.

Revival ongoing
Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist
Church, Commerce, is holding
revival services through Thursday,
March 20.

St. Catherine's gives
Holy Week schedule
A Mass of the Lord’s Supper will
be held on Thursday, March 20, at
5:30 p.m. at St. Catherine Laboure
Catholic Mission.
On Good Friday, March 21, the
Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion and
Communion Service will be held
at 7 p.m.
At 6 p.m. on Saturday, March
22, the Easter Vigil Mass will be
celebrated, and the Sunday Easter
Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on
March 23.
Results of the Parish council vot
ing are Michael Bulls, chairman,
Randy Collins and Lisa Pham.
They will serve on the council for
two years.
