SHINING LEOPARD
Bill Redmon, making a play from shortstop during a subregion
game last week, has been a factor at the plate in recent outings
for the Banks County High School Leopards.

“Jeff had some big base hits and
Tyler continues to swing the bat
well,” Lord said. “It was a good win
for us. East Jackson is improving
and you have to play well to beat
them.”
The Leopards fell to Dawson
County 6-4 Monday in game
between two evenly matched teams.
“Their pitcher kept us off balance
all game,” Lord said. “We swung at
too many curves and sliders early in
the count. He had good command of
three pitches, so when we dug our
selves a hole, it was hard to dig out.
When we were patient at the plate,
we were able to get some hits.”
Gailey started the game working
three innings with four strikeouts.
Smith worked in relief and also
fanned four Dawson County batters.
Chris Porter had a big day at
the plate with three hits, including
two singles and a triple. Porter also
drove in two runs.
Redmon finished with two singles
and two RBI while Dale added two
hits. Gibbs had one hit and scored
one run while Brett Armour and
Kyle Smith both scored runs.
“Bill and Chris both had great
games and delivered big two-out
RBI hits that you have to have to
win ball games,” Lord said. “A break
here or there, and things could have
turned out different. Our pitchers
struggled getting ahead and that
made things difficult. We did a good
job of getting out of some jams.
Neither our pitching or offense were
firing on all cylinders. We didn’t
play bad, but we didn’t play well
enough to beat a good team for the
third straight time.”
Even with the loss, the Leopards
are just a game out of first in the
subregion standings behind Dawson,
whose two losses have been to
BCHS. Fannin County is a 1.5 out
of first with Union County still alive
at three games back with a double
header in Homer Friday beginning
at 3 p.m.
“We still have a lot to play for and
have put ourselves in good position
to make a run at the subregion,”
Lord said. “We suffered a setback
today (Monday), but we’re still right
there. We look to get back on track
against Fannin and continue to focus
on one game at a time.”

points in.

BCHS track coach Rob Moffett,
who continues to build the level of
success of the program.
