Keeping the faith alive in us
There is a commonality in all of
our prayer lives---sometimes the
answer to our request
comes quickly and, at
other times, we have to
wait. Another common
element is faith. The
Bible tells us that each
one of us has been dealt
a measure of faith, and
we should exercise this
faith when we pray.
Faith is the substance
of things hoped for, the
evidence of things not
seen. Faith is trusting God with
out knowing when or how He will
resolve our situation. Our timing
is not God’s timing, but one thing
I can testify to is that the answer
will come right on time.
When we find ourselves in that
period of waiting, the one thing
that we need to do is keep the
faith. We should wait with expec
tation and keep our trust in Him.
Of course, at times, that is easier
said than done, but the Word of
God gives us many examples of
people who have been in situ
ations just like us. We find that
God came through for them. As
He is no respecter of persons;
He’s going to come through for
us as well.
My thoughts began to drift back
to a friend of mine who has a
sick grandson. She’s been pray
ing for this need for a while.
Then I remembered the story of
the daughter of Jairus recorded
in the gospels. This 12-year-old
was on her death bed and, by the
time Jesus came to her, she had
already died. In Matthew 9:18,
we see that Jairus asked Jesus to
“come and lay His hand upon her,
and she shall live.” And that is
exactly what Jesus did.
He took her hand and
she arose.
Later in the same
chapter, we also see a
woman who had been
bleeding internally for
12 years. Even though
she had been waiting for
a long period of time,
she still had the faith to
see her prayer answered.
In verses 21 and 22, we
see that she said, “If I just touch
the hem of His garment, I shall be
whole.” And that’s exactly what
happened. Jesus felt the touch
and said, “Thy faith hath made
thee whole.”
So if you are in a period of
waiting at this very moment, trust
in the Lord. As tough as waiting
may seem, the Bible tells us that
there are rewards to those who
wait. One of my favorite verses
in the Bible is Isaiah 40:31: “But
they that wait upon the LORD
shall renew their strength; they
shall mount up with wings as
eagles; they shall run, and not be
weary; and they shall walk, and
not faint.”
Depend on the Lord for strength
during this time. Please don’t let
anxiety, doubt, and fear enter you
mind. Remember, God created
you and He wants the very best
for you. Keep the faith and your
answer will come right on time.
