last Thursday.

Also competing for BCHS at
the state meet were Lyn Hester
(shot put) and Jamail Jennings
(400-meter dash). Hester, a junior,
threw a personal best of 44-11.
He did not qualify for the final
eight but coach Rob Moffett and
assistant coach Jay Reid said they
were very pleased with Hester’s
performance in his first season
competing.
The coaches believe Hester can
improve on his personal best next
spring. The junior is also a strong
competitor in the discus and is
expected to be a contender in that
event for state in 2009 as well.
Jennings, a senior, ran his per
sonal best in the 400-meter with a
time of 53.02. He was sixth overall
in his heat.
“The times were unbelieveable in
all of the heats and we were very
happy with Jamail’s performance,”
Moffett said.
Overall, the BCHS track pro
gram took several positive steps
this season. The boys posted seven
wins with all of their losses against
AAA programs.
The BCHS Lady Leopards were
also competitive this spring and
continued to improve with each
meet, Moffett said.
“The nucleus is there for contin
ued improvement,” the coach said.
“There is still a need for more
athletes to participate in the track
program for the teams to reach the
next level of competition.”
The BCHS track teams will con
tinue to compete in Region 8-AA
next spring although several new
schools will move in.
“Aaron is the epitome of what
we expect from our players,” Lord
said. “He thinks of the team first
and he’ll do whatever he’s asked to
do in order for the Leopards to be
successful.”
Described as a “tireless worker,”
Wagoner is a player termed “fun to
be around.”
“I have a lot of respect and admira
tion for him and what he has given
to our baseball program,” Lord said.
“He had some game-saving plays
at second base in some big region
games for us this year. He’s a first-
class guy and we’ll miss having
‘Wag’ on the field.”
Following graduation later this
month, Wagoner plans to enter the
Marines of which Lord said he was
a “very special young man.”
