BOC tables request on mud bogging facility
BY CHRIS BRIDGES
The Banks County Board of
Commissioners tabled a request for
a mud bogging facility on Brown
Bridge Road until its June meeting.
The request, made by property
owner Michael Cline, was denied
partly because of questions which
arose over whether a proper legal
advertisement was made concern
ing the rezoning request for the
property.
A citizen in attendance at Tuesday’s
BOC meeting said the legal adver
tised published in the April 16 edi
tion of The Banks County News
did not contain the address of the
facility.
The citizen also expressed concern
when the operation would close on
Saturday and Sunday although Cline
said he planned to close by 8 p.m.
Once the issue of the legal adver
tisement was brought up, the BOC
voted to table the issue until next
month. Commissioner Joe Barefoot
also said he had not had time to
look over the booklet of information
on the operation which Cline had
submitted. Cline questioned that by
saying, “You’ve had that informa
tion for six weeks.”
The previous week Cline’s request
had been approved by the Banks
County planning commission
although members had expressed
various concerns. The planning
commission asked Cline to agree not
to open on Sundays until 1 p.m. and
while he initially agreed, Cline said
Tuesday he no longer wanted to be
tied down by that requirement.
Cline noted Atlanta Dragway
opens on Sunday at 8 a.m. and
begins racing at 9 a.m. He said he
does not plan to open on Sundays
until noon but that he does not want
to be restricted from opening. Cline
said he is located several miles from
the nearest church and does not see
how his operation could be a noise
issue.
The BOC, as did the members
of the planning commission, asked
Cline about vehicles leaving the area
covered with mud and then perhaps
causing a road hazard. Cline said,
however, he would have pressure
washers available to clean the under
carriage and windows of vehicles to
make them “street safe.”
Cline said his operation would be
one for a family environment and for
family members of all ages.
In other business at Tuesday night’s
meeting the BOC:
•held a 30-meeting closed session
to discuss litigation and land acquis-
tion. No action was taken.
•heard a request from the Banks
County Fire Department concerning
a training facility on Hudson Valley
Road. No action was taken.
•suspended La Hacienda’s alcohol
license for 10 business days and
placed it on one year’s probation for
underage sales.
•suspended County Line Package
Store’s alcohol license for three days
and placed it one one year’s proba
tion for underage alcohol sales.
