and forthcoming marriage of their
daughter, Pam, to Thomas Hendrix,
son of Thomas and Virginia Hendrix,
Missouri.
The bride-elect is the granddaugh
ter of Emmett and Sarah Duren,
Commerce.
Miss Nelms is employed by Dollar
General, Athens.
Mr. Hendrix is employed by the
USDA, Athens.
The wedding is planned for 2 p.m.
Saturday, June 28, 2008, at New
Harmony Baptist Church, Nicholson.

ter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Claud
Jackson, Dewitt, Ill., and the late Lt.
R.J. Church, USMC, and Alvetta R.
Church, U.S. Navy, Clinton, Ill.
Miss Church has some college
education in business and psychol
ogy. The couple owns a paper prod
uct business.
The future groom is the grand
son of Mr. and Mrs. C.T. Samples,
Maysville and Mableton, and Hugh
Thompson, Orlando, Fla., and Ruby
Williams, Hobbs, N.M.
Mr. Thompson graduated from
high school in Rawlins, Wyo.,
and earned a bachelor’s degree in
Christian counseling from Bethany
Divinity, Dothan, Ala., in 2006.
The wedding is planned for
noon Saturday, June 28, 2008, at
Lebanon United Methodist Church,
Jefferson. All family and friends are
invited to attend.
The couple met in the parking lot
of a local restaurant and said they
consider that their first date because
“it was a very pleasant lunch with
an understanding of each other’s
lives.” After daily phone calls and
emails, the couple began dating
“seriously,” and dated for seven
months before Mr. Thompson pro
posed.
“One evening, we were standing
in the living room, joking about
our children...about which child
belonged to who,” Miss Church
said. “At this point is when he
looked at me and stated, ‘And this is
something we need to finalize, too.’
I looked back at him in wonder
ment. I think I mumbled a ‘what?’
He asked, ‘Will you marry me?’”
“We complement and complete
one another so well,” Miss Church
added. “We think alike, we work
great together, we communicate,
discuss everything, we are two of a
kind, becoming one. We are more
than partners in business, we are
partners in life.”
Kenny Rogers plans Nicholson home
Nicholson’s newest resident will
also be its most famous.
Singer-songwriter Kenny Rogers
is building a house on a secluded
150 acres across Hwy. 335 from
Staghorn Plantation Estates.
A recent story in The Atlanta
Journal-Constitution quoted Rogers
as describing the proposed house and
property as “kind of like Disneyland
with animals.”
Rogers, 69, and his wife, Wanda,
and their twin 4-year-old sons live
in Buckhead. Rogers has placed
their home on the market for $7.95
million.
