BJC Medical Center OB department renovations complete
The makeover in the obstetrics
and labor and delivery department
at BJC Medical Center is immedi
ately apparent from the redecorated
waiting room to the bright walls of
the OB Unit, the vibrant blue-sky
scenes on the ceilings, redecorated
nursery, and the improved nursing
station.
One of the most noticeable chang
es is the improvement of the labor
and delivery suite.
“We have recently refurnished
our labor and delivery suite,” said
Selina Baskins, director of OB. “Our
enhancements include OB TraceVue,
Stryker delivery bed, infant bed with
radiant warmer and abundant seat
ing for several family members.”
OB TraceVue, an $83,000 upgrade
to the previous system, offers
patient surveillance, alerting, docu
mentation and archiving designed
to ensure comprehensive obstetri
cal care coverage. OB TraceVue is
accessible wherever patient infor
mation is needed - from the patient
bedside and delivery room, nursing
station, or even from the home or
office of the physician. The easy
access to well-organized information
improves efficiency, which allows
the staff to focus more attention on
the patient, and in turn achieves the
best quality care, leaders state.
“Not only are we proud of our
facilities, we take pride in our excel
lent nursing staff and the personal
one-on-one care that has becomes
less of a focus at larger facilities,”
Baskins said. “We believe the one-
size-fits-all philosophy does not
always allow for the individual
wishes that a patient may have. Our
goal is to provide individualized
medical and emotional care while
treating every patient and their fami
lies as a unique member of our own
family.”
New parents receive a “celebra
tion” steak dinner after delivery, as
well as a multitude of various gift
items for mother and child. These
gifts, which may include a new
mother bag, a hand made quilt, a
knitted hat, a baby gift bag, baby
door bows, coloring books and a
layette set, are donated by local
churches, schools, and other orga
nizations.
